Mohan Singh, the curator of Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi has passed away. Mohan, who was previously associated with the Mohali Stadium in Chandigarh, died on Sunday (November 7) morning. The cause of the death is not immediately known but it has led to investigation by the local police.

The Abu Dhabi Cricket officials have confirmed the death and said that the Mohan's family have been informed and that they are on their way to Abu Dhabi.

The news broke even as the match between Afghanistan and New Zealand was underway at the ground. An ICC spokesperson later said: “We are deeply saddened and our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends, Abu Dhabi Cricket and everyone connected with the event.”

Abu Dhabi Cricket later released a statement. “It is with great sadness that Abu Dhabi Cricket announces that Head Curator, Mohan Singh, passed away today. Mohan has been with Abu Dhabi Cricket for 15 years and has played a pivotal role in all of the venue's success during that time.

“Sunday's ICC Men's T20 WC Super 12 game between New Zealand and Afghanistan went ahead as scheduled, with the support of Mohan's family and Abu Dhabi Cricket's ground staff.”

“It is very shocking news, he was very well known to me,” said Daljit Singh, the former chief curator of BCCI. “He was very a hard-working, committed and ambitious person. My condolences to the family,”

Mohan worked under Daljit for over 10 years before moving to UAE about 10 years ago. “He would be in touch with me regularly and I will check with his family,” a shocked Daljit further said.

Mohan, in his mid-40s, was employed by the Abu Dhabi cricket authorities. The ICC, which is hosting the World Cup, in three grounds in UAE – Dubai, Sharjah and Abu Dhabi – has engaged with the ground staff of the Sheikh Zayed Stadium.
