Bangladesh will play two Tests in New Zealand.
Bangladesh will have the opportunity to play a couple of two-day practice games ahead of the two-match Test series against New Zealand due to a quarantine relaxation.
Bangladesh were asked to quarantine for 14 days when they last travelled to New Zealand in March 2021 to play white-ball games but this time around, the tourists will have to quarantine themselves only for a week at the quarantine center.
“Our quarantine protocol is relaxed from the one that was maintained in the previous tour and as a result it created opportunity for us,” BCB's chief executive officer Nizamuddin Chowdhury told reporters on Thursday (December 2).
”We will have a three day room quarantine while the players will be allowed to come out for the next four days in the quarantine center. After seven days, they will be allowed to go to hotel and then practice as well. We will play one two-day intra-squad practice game and another practice game against New Zealand XI before the Test series,” he further added.
The BCB chief executive informed that team director Khaled Mahmud, who is missing the second Test against Pakistan for personal reasons, will be available during the tour of New Zealand alongside other members of the team management.
Bangladesh opted for Mizanur Rahman as their fielding coach after Ryan Cook was released by the board before the home series against Pakistan. Nizamuddin informed that they are working on bringing in a local fielding coach or an overseas recruit in the coming days.
‘”We are working on whether we will have a local fielding coach or not and before leaving the country you will have a clear picture. We are in talks with couple of fielding coaches (foreign) but we can only comment after we finalize it,” he said.
Bangladesh will kickstart the new year by playing the opening game at the Bay Oval in Tauranga from January 1-5. The teams then head south to Christchurch for the second fixture, starting on January 9. The two Tests are a part of the World Test Championship.
