Pakistan continued their dominance after shooting down Bangladesh for just 87 on the final day in Dhaka. The visitors then asked Bangladesh to follow-on and reduced them to 72 for 4 at lunch with Shaheen Afridi and Hasan Ali bagging two wickets each.
After starting on 76 for 7, Shakib Al Hasan needed the bowlers to rally around him. Instead, Taijul Islam and Khaled Ahmed bagged ducks, leaving the team at 77 for 9. Sajid Khan, who had picked six wickets on the fourth day, ended with figures of 8 for 42 with Shakib the last batter dismissed for 33.
Pakistan had no hesitation in enforcing the follow-on in a bid to push for the win, and soon left the hosts reeling at 25 for 4. In the fourth over, Hasan nipped out Mahmudul Hasan Joy and in the fifth Shaheen trapped Shadman Islam lbw. Mominul Haque too was lbw and opted for the review to try and turn the decision. The Bangladesh captain, however, was given out because of the lack of conclusive evidence with the ball hitting the pad and the bat at the same time.
Najmul Hossain Shanto's stay lasted just 11 deliveries as Bangladesh lost seven wickets in the opening 80 minutes of the day. There was resistance from Mushfiqur Rahim and Liton Das as both batters played positively to stretch their association to 47. Both took on Sajid and bagged 20 runs from the two overs from the off spinner. On the first delivery of the 18th over – Nauman Ali had Liton caught behind but there was no appeal. The batter managed to escape and continue his fight.
Brief Scores: Pakistan 300/4 decl. (Babar Azam 76, Azhar Ali 56; Taijul Islam 2-73) lead Bangladesh 87 (Sajid Khan 8-42) & (f/o) 74/4 by 141 runs
