"If we remain dependent on our national cricketers, there will be no domestic cricket in Bangladesh," Khaled Mahmud said
Bangladesh Cricket Board stated on Thursday that they are not ready to disrupt the domestic calendar in order to accommodate national cricketers to feature in those competitions.
The BCB wants to host the Bangladesh Cricket League, the country's lone franchise based four-team zonal first-class tournament, in December this year after the ongoing National Cricket League.
The cricket board is also inclined to add a one-day format tournament in the zonal competition after the end of the four-day competition – with both the tournaments to be held inna single-league format. The draft of both tournaments will be held on the same day where the teams will get the opportunity to pick the players for single or both tournaments.
The BCB is expected to host the Bangladesh Premier League, country's lone T20 tournament, in January next year while they are aiming to conduct the Dhaka Premier League, the country's traditional Dhaka-based 50-over club tournament in March.
“If we remain dependent on our national cricketers, there will be no domestic cricket in Bangladesh,” BCB team director Khaled Mahmud told reporters in Mirpur.
“National cricketers are busy with international duty and so we have to plan our domestic calendar without keeping the national team in mind,” he added.
Mahmud said that they are not ready to shift the date of the DPL for national cricketers, considering it is far more crucial for a lot of domestic cricketers.
“No, not at all (the DPL can't be shifted for national cricketers). We are determined that the Premier League (DPL) won't get shifted while the national team cricketers remain busy playing in international cricket at the same time. All these things have been informed to the participating clubs,” he said.
“We only try to make sure that all the national players are available in the BPL because we have to play this tournament to improve our T20 game,” he said.
“Actually if we think about national cricketers, we will not be able to meet up in any domestic tournament and the rest of the players will be deprived. That's not right because we can get new talent from these tournaments and so we are preparing the calendar accordingly,” he added.
