Shakib's KKR team are one win away from making the IPL final.
Bangladesh Cricket Board will take the final call regarding Shakib Al Hasan's participation in the Indian Premier League final after the second qualifier between Kolkata Knight Riders and Delhi Capitals on October 13.
Shakib has already missed Bangladesh's opening practice game against Sri Lanka in the build-up to the T20 WC given his IPL commitments and will also not be available for the other practice game against Ireland on October 14.
BCB is yet to decide whether Shakib will be made available to play the IPL final on October 15, should KKR qualify, and have a number of factors to take into consideration.
Bangladesh start their qualifying campaign against Scotland on October 17 after playing the two practice game and if Shakib is allowed to take part in the final, the all-rounder will have to fly to Muscat from Dubai immediately after completing his stint with KKR.
In that case firstly team management will have to consider his rest period given his rather relentless schedule. ”We will make a final call regarding Shakib( return to the national dressing room ahead of ICC WorldT20) after the second qualifier of IPL,” BCB chief executive Nizamuddin Chowdhury told Cricbuzz on Tuesday.
”We have to take a lot of things into consideration as to how much time he is getting for rest if his team goes into the final and if he wants to play in that game whether he will have sufficient rest or not and we are working on it after taking relevant information about it,” he said.
”As he (Shakib) is carrying momentum playing competitive cricket in IPL so we are taking that into consideration as it is much more intense than the practice game,” he said.
BCB will also need a clear picture about the bubble-to-bubble transfer across countries. “Shakib will move from one bubble to another bubble (one country to another) . We have to make sure everything is in order and we are working out on that as well,” he said.
“We are connected with team and team management. We are in talks with them about all the options about Shakib's moving from Dubai to Oman. But first of all our eyes are on tomorrow's second qualifier and then we will decide,” he added.
Bangladesh, who are eyeing a spot in the Super 12 phase of the tournament, will also face Oman and Papua New Guinea on October 19 and 21 respectively in the other two games of the qualifiers.
