BCCI To Appoint Ombudsman During December 4 AGMThe BCCI is currently without an Ombudsman, a constitutional requirement.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has confirmed that its 90th Annual General Meeting (AGM) will be held on December 4, as recently reported by Cricbuzz. In a letter to the state associations on Saturday (November 13), BCCI secretary Jay Shah said the venue for the AGM, which was postponed in September, will be in Kolkata.

The BCCI secretary also circulated the agenda for the AGM and one of the key items, seen by Cricbuzz, is the the appointment of Ombudsman and Ethics Officer. The BCCI is currently without an Ombudsman, a constitutional requirement. Retd Justice DK Jain was the Ombudsman till recently but his term ended a few months ago. There has been no appointment in his place and nor was an extension given to Justice Jain.

An interesting point in the agenda (item V) is “to update on appointment of selectors.” It is interesting because of the fact that no selector is about to complete his term. All five members of the Chetan Shamra-headed committee have at least one year tenure left in their tenure.

The BCCI office-bearers, currently in Dubai for the T20 WC final and ICC meetings, were not immediately available for a comment but a state official said it could also be on the appointment of junior selectors. In September this year, the BCCI had constituted the junior selection committee with S Sharath (chairman), Kishan Mohan, Ranadeb Bose, Pathik Patel and Harvinder Singh Sodhi as members. There was no elaboration on that point.

Updates on BCCI's domestic season, (2021-22), on T20 WC, 2021, on India's Future Tours Programme and on matters related to the appointment of support staff of Indian Men (Senior) team are the other prominent items on the agenda.

The AGM will also induct two new members of the General Body and one representative of Indian Cricketers Association (ICA) into the Governing Council of the Indian Premier League.
