Kohli does stress that it's still early days, and maybe it is but RCB are certainly looking strong. They're back on top of the points table and that NRR is insane. RR meanwhile are slipping away at the moment, and they need a quick turnaround if they have playoff ambitions. After a couple of days in Mumbai, we're back to Chennai tomorrow with the defending champions Mumbai Indians facing the Punjab Kings. Let's hope we get a more competitive game than we did today. This is Hari Sadanandan signing off on behalf of my mates MS Ramakrishnan , Sagar Chawla , Vineet Anantharaman and Mukesh . Cheers!! Devdutt Padikkal | Player of the Match: It's been special. I could only wait my turn. When I was down with COVID, all I was thinking of was to come here and play the first match here. I couldn't do that but was keen to contribute to the team's win. The wicket was coming on really well and we got a good start. When you get into a partnership like that, it helps as runs come from both ends. (Whether he was worried about the 100) Not really, that's what I was telling Virat to go for it. For me it's not about getting to a hundred, I wouldn't mind missing out on hundreds as long as I contribute to team's wins. Throughout the innings there were times when he was going better and then I was going better. Rotation of strike is important. We just clicked well. Virat Kohli : It was an outstanding innings. He batted really well for his first season last time. There was a lot of talk about him not accelerating after getting to 30s. He's put all that to rest. It was a good pitch to bat on to be honest, and him being tall meant that bowlers struggled with their lengths. T20 cricket is always about partnership cricket. You can't always go big from the word go. When one guy is going well, it's important for me to ensure that I don't lose my wicket. It can change on other days. We spoke about it (on the 100). He told me to finish it off, I told him to get to it first. He said many will come, I said yea you can say that after you get to the landmark. He deserved to get the three-figure mark. We don't have standout names (in bowling) but we have effective ones. We have depth in our bowling. They are professionals. We have taken the most wickets in the death overs this season so far and it's something we take pride in. Dev's innings was a great one but I'd also like to credit the bowlers for setting it up. (to the fans) I'd say don't be overexcited. We're being professional. We're moving in the right direction. Highest opening partnerships for RCB 181*Kohli - Padikkal v RR Mumbai 2021 167 Gayle - Dilshan v PWI Bengaluru 2013 147 Gayle - Kohli v KXIP Bengaluru 2016 Highest targets chased down without losing a wicket : 184 Gambhir - Lynn KKR v GL 2017 179 Watson - Du Plessis CSK v KXIP 2020 178 Kohli - Padikkal RCB v RR 2021 * 163 Tendulkar - Dwayne Smith MI v RR 2012 Glenn Maxwell : Sensational to watch (the winning opening partnership). I was looking to get out there, but the way they got the deficit down between balls and runs was outstanding to watch. We haven't played our best cricket in all facets of the game. We are never satisfied with our work. We want to improve. Probably didn't bowl well. We had them 4 down early and then they got away. (Asked if he taught Devdutt the reverse sweep) I haven't done any work with him yet but I will take some credit because he's hit a couple of them really well. It's been nice to have a little contribution thus far. Hopefully will do well in the coming games. Sanju Samson : They batted really well. We did well to get that score on the board after the early wickets. We need to go back and do some homework. We need to be honest with ourselves and come back better. Need time to look into what went wrong and understand, I am sure we will comeback well. This game... It puts you down but you need to find a way and come out better. 22:55 Local Time, 17:25 GMT, 22:55 IST: There are wins and there are wins like these. Teams dream of such performances. RCB have just swept side RR with brutal precision. 177 was always below-par at the Wankhede but nobody expected the Bangalore openers to make such a mockery of the total. Padikkal's strokeplay was dazzling from the word go, allowing Kohli to settle and the latter also hit top gear later on in the innings. It was the young left-hander's game though, and he fittingly produced a superb ton. Kohli too got a form-inducing half century and the target was chased down with 21 balls left without a single wicket lost. Dominant, ruthless or anything you want to name it. RR's bowlers were erratic, and on such a pitch, that was a non-bailable offence. They will need to do some soul searching now after this loss. 16.4 Mustafizur to Devdutt Padikkal, 5 wides , RCB go 4/4 with a thundering win! Anti-climax as we don't get the glory hit, Mustafizur sprays this well down leg, past Padikkal's flick and past a diving Samson who gets a glove on it but still ends up at the third man fence IPL 100s by uncapped Indian players 120* Paul Valthaty KXIP v CSK 2011 114* Manish Pandey RCB v Deccan 2009 101*Devdutt Padikkal RCB v RR 2021 16.3 Mustafizur to Kohli, 1 run, angling across from outside off, dabbed gently towards point. Waste of a review 16.1 Mustafizur to Devdutt Padikkal, FOUR , there it is! Century for Devdutt Padikkal! What a knock it's been! His first in IPL and he continues his stellar form in 2021. Was in splendid touch during the VH Trophy and today we've seen the best of him. Reaches the milestone with a blistering drive, splits mid-off and extra cover, and away she goes to the fence. Quite sure that's what Kohli and the RCB camp also wanted 15.5 Chetan Sakariya to Devdutt Padikkal, 1 run, low full toss and Padikkal swipes aerially, not timed that well though and it's between deep mid-wicket and long-on.
