Commentary

That then, is a wrap of today's proceedings. Sri Lanka are yet to record a T20I win against India in Sri Lanka, so the wait continues....can they change that on Saturday? Do remember to join us for the second T20I (same time, same place) to look out. Until then, cheers and goodbye!!

Jemimah Rodrigues, Player of the Match: The pitches are similar to back home in Mumbai and I just applied myself, played my natural game. I love this country and that is a privilege for us to come and play some cricket here. Lot of support from the crowd and Sri Lankan cricket board as well.

Harmanpreet Kaur, India skipper: I think credit goes to all the players for the belief and the way Jemi batted and later on the bowlers did the job for us. As a unit we always want to utilize the first six overs and apart from that that went according to plan. We are really enjoying our time here and nice to see people come and watch us play here.

Chamari Athapaththu, Sri Lankan skipper: We dropped a couple of catches and that final over really cost us. In the powerplay we didn't bat to our best and played too many dot balls I felt. We have to stick with our plan and play positive cricket to chase that kind of a score.

17:08 local, 17:08 IST: Sri Lanka were a bit slow to start, but just when they begined to generate some momentum, Radha Yadav struck twice in three balls to remove Chamari Athapaththu and Harshitha Madavi which forced a bit of cautious approach from the rest of the batters. Kavisha Dilhari tried her best, but with a strike-rate under 100, that was never going to be enough especially whereas chasing at over 9 RPO in the final 10 overs. The bowling was really right from India and the extras column is only a fair reflection of how well they bowled today. Remember India scored 20 runs off the final over and that really helped the visitors gain some confidence going in the chase. Stay tuned for the presentations...
