Cricket news - Live Blog: Bangladesh vs Afghanistan

IT'S ALL OVER! Afghanistan pick up a comprehensive 136-run win over Bangladesh - their fourth-highest ever in terms of the margin of runs. There was nothing Rashid Khan couldn't have done today - also his 20th birthday.

Turning the tables in the first innings with a valiant unbeaten knock of 57 en route a 95-run stand with Gulbadin Naib, he picked up two wickets to help bundle Bangladesh for just 119 in 42.1 overs.

It was a sorry tale for Bangladesh, who struggled from the onset. They will have to turn things around quickly, given that they face India tomorrow. Afghanistan will take on Pakistan at the same time, and the momentum from this win will do them a world of good.

Join us for the double header of the Super Four tomorrow. Thank you for your company today. Goodnight.

Can't keep Rashid out of the game. A run-out now to get Mossadek! Bangladesh are nine down.

Mashrafe falls for a duck. Good catch from Alam, who ran in to throw in a dive and hold on. 110/8 now as Nabi picks up his first wicket for the night.

SEVEN DOWN! Rahmat strikes with his first ball. Mehidy departs! An outside edge flies to backward point. Easy peasy.

DOUBLE STRIKE! Now Mahmudullah! Googly gets him! Rashid has his second. What a game he's having!

RASHID STRIKES! Shakib was Bangladesh's key if they had any chance of making a match out of this from this position. With that in mind, it was a poor way to fall. The ball skidded on to hit Shakib in front of middle, who was playing for the googly. Easy decision. Half the Bangladesh side is back in the shed.

REVIEW! Two shouts for leg before from Rashid. Second one a little stronger and they decide to review the not-out decision from the on-field umpire. Okay delivery, no bat... Two reds, but umpire's call on hitting - only juuuuust brushing leg stump. NOT OUT! They don't lose their review though.

Edged and gone..to the fence..Mahmudullah plays a loose drive and the ball runs away off the outer edge to the fence at deep third man. First four of the innings.

Naib does the body-builder's pose as he strikes again! Afghanistan not breaking a sweat and Bangladesh being made to flex all their muscles. Mithun has chopped it on to his sticks. Bangladesh in tatters - 43 for 4.

Naib..Nabi..bowling in tandem. And Naib cajoled his skipper to take a review and guess what? He has strangled Mominul down leg! BAN: 39 for 3 in the 13th over. That was a ball well down leg and the batsman trying to help it on its way, gets a speck off the bat.

Last 20 balls, 3 runs and two wickets.

REVIEW: Liton Das is trapped plumb in front; given out by the on-field umpire. But he decides to review after a chat with Shakib. No luck! Review lost - GONE! Bangladesh lose their openers with just 17 on the board. Aftab Alam gets his first with an inswinger.

STAT: Only three times have teams won chasing a total of 250-plus in Abu Dhabi. 17 games have been lost of the 20.

MUJEEB STRIKES! Bangladesh lose an early wicket in their chase of 256. Easy catch to short third man after a slew of dot balls. Nazmul Hossain gets a leading edge that is taken easily in the end - walks back for 7. Bangladesh are 15/1. Shakib in at No.3.

Bangladesh openers in the middle. Aftab Alam to open the bowling.

How good was that finish from Afghanistan? Rashid continues to impress! The lad is special. Turned 20 today, and picked up a gift himself with a half-century off 32 balls, remaining unbeaten on 57! Afghanistan finish with 255 - which looked impossible at one stage! As many as 97 runs were added in the last ten overs, en route their stand of 95 off just 56. Bangladesh were in control for almost 40 overs of the innings, but the eighth-wicket stand turned the tables and momentum in Afghanistan's favour. Can Bangladesh chase this? Join us for the chase.

WOW! Who would've thought? 50-run stand up between Rashid and Naib. They've run well between the wickets, they've got the boundaries. Afghanistan are past the 220-run mark. Wouldn't have thought half hour ago when Nabi departed. Very clever batting from the pair.

Afghanistan cross the 200-run mark.

SHAKIB HAS ANOTHER! Nabi tries to play across the line against Shakib who strikes him right in front. Misses it whilst attempting the sweep. Gone! Easy for the umpire. Shakib has four, Afghanistan lose their seventh.

IT'S THE BIG WICKET! Shahidi falls after nicking to the 'keeper. It was a good 58, but he has to depart now. Rubel has his first for the day. Afghanistan don't seem like they will get to 250 that they wanted to initially. Up to Nabi and Naib to take them over 200. They're 150/6.

SHAKIB GETS HIS THIRD! Shenwari plays across the line and is undone as he misses it completely. The stumps are shattered and Bangladesh have their fifth.

Shahidi holding his end well, taking on the responsibility with wickets falling at the other end regularly. FIFTY for him! Superb innings, this.

The run-rate has only just gotten over the four-run mark. Bangladesh have contained Afghanistan well all innings.

Another one for Shakib! Bowled! Enough gap between bat and pad with Shakib bowling full and the skipper getting forward to push the ball. The skipper departs for 8. Two wickets for Shakib inside four overs.

SHAKIB STRIKES! The fifty-run stand is broken! Can't keep debutant Hider out of action today. Not with the ball this time, but with a brilliant catch at the boundary. Well-judged, times his jump to perfection! Lovely! Shakib with the wicket. Mohammad Shahzad departs for 37.

A direct hit and Shahzad would've been gone! Superb reflexes from the skipper, who dives down to stop that in his follow through and chucks it back at the stumps at the non-striker's end. Misses though. No damage done.

Fifty up for Afghanistan in the 15th over

Wicket maiden for the debutant, who gets his second! What a day he's having! Bowled! It was the slower one that had Rahmat into the drive a tad earlier. The ball ekes through the gap between bat and pad and gone! Afghanistan are 28/2.

OUT! Debutant Hider bowls his first over in ODI cricket early... And guess what? He gets a wicket in his first over! Ihsanullah hits too well and too straight to Mithun at cover-point to give Hider his maiden ODI wicket. It wasn't a wicket-taking delivery by any means - was short and wide and there to hit. Hits it too well to the fielder. Sharp catch taken! Mashrafe had just moved the fielder there out of slip and boom!

Right, the Afghanistan openers are in the middle. Rubel Hossain with the ball. Here we go.

Mashrafe wasn't happy with the scheduling of the tournament, which has Bangladesh play today and tomorrow in Dubai. Not just will they have to travel, but take on India, while Pakistan will take on Afghanistan on the same day. However, he'll put that at the back of his mind at the moment and focus on the task at hand. Nothing is to gain from harbouring on it anyway.

Bangladesh (Playing XI): Liton Das(w), Nazmul Hossain Shanto, Mominul Haque, Mohammad Mithun, Shakib Al Hasan, Mahmudullah, Mosaddek Hossain, Mehidy Hasan, Mashrafe Mortaza(c), Abu Hider Rony, Rubel Hossain

Afghanistan (Playing XI): Mohammad Shahzad(w), Ihsanullah Janat, Rahmat Shah, Asghar Afghan(c), Hashmatullah Shahidi, Samiullah Shenwari, Mohammad Nabi, Gulbadin Naib, Rashid Khan, Aftab Alam, Mujeeb Ur Rahman

TOSS: Afghanistan win toss, will bat first. One change to the side. Shamiullah Shenwari will play today. Bangladesh have three changes - no Tamim, Mushfiqur and Mustafizur! Two debutants in instead.

Good evening and welcome to the clash between Afghanistan and Bangladesh, even if it's an inconsequential clash given that both teams have qualified for the Super Four.

However, If cricket's quality is measured in terms of passion, you aren't likely to get a better clash. After the damp squib that all the build-up to Indo-Pak resulted in yesterday, here are two sides, yearning for some equality in the footage.

Brace up, it's going to be a spin-fest, an overdose that promises to have every form of it that exists on display. But today's is more about resting, rotating, benching, experimenting .. and yes, the pride to take to tomorrow after pulling this off.

Stay tuned for the toss in a bit.
