Ashton Turner released from ODI squad to rejoin Scorchers
Cricket news - Ashton Turner released from ODI squad to rejoin Scorchers
Batting all-rounder Ashton Turner, who was called up as cover for Mitchell Marsh for the upcoming ODIs against India, has now been released from the Australia squad and is free to lead the Perth Scorchers again in the BBL. Marsh, left out of the playing XI for the first ODI, spent two days in hospital due to gastritis, but has sufficiently recovered for Turner to be released.
This comes as a welcome boost for the Scorchers as they hope to turn around a floundering campaign, which sees them at rock-bottom at the halfway point of the season. Turner has been one of the very few shining lights for them, with scores of 43*(22), 47(30), 60* (36) in his last three matches.
Scorchers are set to face Sydney Sixers in one half of Sunday's double-header. The other match on that day sees the Adelaide Strikers travelling to Sydney to take on the Sydney Thunder.
With Billy Stanlake not a part of the XI for the first ODI either, and in town for the game, he has been allowed to turn up for the Strikers.
"Stanlake has been made available for the match against Sydney Thunder on Sunday on the basis it is in his best interest and there is no additional travel required to do this, nor does it compromise his preparation if selected for the 2nd ODI," a Cricket Australia spokesperson said.
Stanlake will rejoin the Australia squad after the BBL game as they head to Adelaide for the second ODI.
