Cricket news - D'Arcy Short, Riley Meredith extend Hurricanes' lead at the top

Hurricanes opener D'Arcy Short continued his superb run this season

The undefeated 96 of Opener D'Arcy Short and Rilee Meredith made four appearances that kept Melbourne Stars at the bottom of the Big Bash League table, while Horbart Hurricanes won a comfortable 59-point win.

Hurricanes got off to a good start after Matthew Wade and Short lost 95 points for the first set of 69 deliveries. Wade dropped for a 38-ball-41, but Short continued to stack the points. Among his 43 points with Jake Doran, the latter included only seven points, while the next stand was worth 47 points with Ben McDermott, who took Hobart Hurricanes to 185 for 2 out of 20 more.

Stars never managed to forge an impressive partnership to launch a successful prosecution. In addition to Meredith - who finished with a 4 for 21 out of 4 overseas - Jofra Archer and Johan Botha each chose a few doors.

Two partnerships promised a strong return, but ended prematurely. The first for the second box between Ben Dunk and Nick Larkin was worth 35 points, then fifth for the fifth wicket between Dwayne Bravo and Seb Gotch for a total of 43 points. The average order could not provoke a fierce fight because the doors were falling regularly.

The stars were finally placed in 18th place for 126 and lost 59 points.

Short score: Hobart Hurricanes 185/2 out of 20 overseas (Matthew D'Arcy 96 *, Matthew Wade 41, Tom O'Connell 1-17) beat the Melbourne Stars 126 in 17. 1 Overs (Seb Gotch 35, Riley Meredith 4-21, Johan Botha 2-21) in 59 races
