India win!

7 needed off the last over and Dhoni carted Behrendorff for a first-ball six to all but seal the game for India. "He can still win matches for India," Manjrekar says on air and an entire nation breathes in relief. Here's the full report.

Dhoni struggling

He's down between the overs, out of breath, and the physio has been in the middle more than once to tend to him. Karthik is superb at the other end but MS Dhoni has been up to the task too. He's nearing another fifty, and it will come at a SR of around 90. That's superb. 7 needed off the last over

Virat Kohli is out!

Oh he's found Maxwell in the deep and it's that man again with the ball: Jhye Richardson. Dinesh Karthik walks out and the spotlight will be on him and Dhoni. Can they take India home and make sense of this very good hundred from Kohli? India need 56 runs off 37 balls.

ODI hundred# 39

His numbers are otherworldly now. That's a crazy number of hundreds to score in cricket's one of three formats. Scary to think that he has more hundreds in other formats. Anyway, Dhoni has made to be busy at the other end, with Kohli farming most of the strike, and hasn't it worked for India I mean. Kohli with another hundred in Adelaide and India need 69 off 47 balls.

India past 200

Kohli looking in supreme control here. His batting average has just ticked to 60 in ODIs. THAT'S INSANE. Don't want to jinx Indian fans but will be surprised if India don't chase it down from here. They need 96 from 76 runs.

Social media in overdrive

I'm not lying when I say that Kohli's been batting more aggressively since Dhoni has turned up at the crease, and that my Twitter timeline has gone kaput. People love Dhoni, and people love to hate Dhoni. He was 2* off 1 ball when jibes about his strike-rate being 200 was doing the rounds. He's now on 6* off 14 balls, which is kinda okay given what we have seen from him umm..

Meanwhile, you can read this interview Kohli gave to BCCI.

.. and there goes Rayudu

He was fidgety for a while. Goes for a big hit off Glenn Maxwell and offers an easy catch in the deep. Where do India find a new No. 4 now? Rayudu's wheels seem to be coming off to.

And out walks MS Dhoni under purple Adelaide skies, intending to turn them red. Maybe they already are, blushing from all the macho running between the wickets we are going to see now. Kohli. Dhoni. 22 yards. Say no more.

49th ODI fifty for Kohli

So Virat Kohli stands between Australia and a series win. The India captain has brought up another half-century, and he's so focused in the middle that he probably isn't even aware of the landmark. Can't see India losing if he stays till the end. Australia have to conjure something here.

Kohli key in 299 run chase

Ambati Rayudu looked a bit iffy to start with. Even got an outside edge off Siddle but the boundary has calmed him since then. He's settled in nicely here, and is pinching singles. He just has one job: keep Kohli on strike. And the runs will keep coming.

Rohit Sharma goes..

Now how is India going to cope with this? Rohit Sharma goes for a big hit, intending to attack in Marcus Stoinis's first over, and falls to a superb take by Peter Handscomb in the deep. And Handscomb is pumped. Like really pumped. Like so pumped that his ##$**&&@ and %$$^&&& and %@@@**^ could have hijacked the English vocab.

Cricbuzz Comm Box --> As Kohli and Rohit lead India's effort in the second innings, here's Ajay Jadeja and Zaheer Khan analyzing the first 15 overs of the run-chase.

Kohli-Sharma rally on

Last seven stands between Rohit & Kohli: 230, 105, 167, 246, 30, 99* & 3. And here as well, the two are looking ominous. Peter Siddle has just been dispatched for a pick-up shot for square leg for six by Sharma, closely followed by a sacrosanct straight drive by Kohli couple of balls later.

BIG WICKET

Dhawan was looking good but have to he has thrown it away. Length ball from Behrendorff and he wanted to smash that one over mid-off. Goes hard at it and skies it. Khawaja settles under it and takes it with ease.

India 47 for 1

POSITIVE START

Australia started with a maiden but Indian openers - Dhawan and Rohit - are picking up the pace now. Both have struck fluent boundaries and are putting the pressure on Australia's bowlers.

India 27 for no loss after five overs.

Welcome to the chase

Jason Behrendorff gets some swing to start, much like in Sydney but have a look at the other end. Jhye Richardson, player of the match in the first ODI, concedes two beautiful boundaries to Rohit Sharma. This is a slow pitch and India will like batting here.

Australia finish with 298/9

Shaun Marsh continued his red-hot run of form with his seventh hundred in One-Day Internationals, finishing on 131 and carting India for 11 fours and 3 sixes in a welcome reminder of what he means to this malnourished Australian side. India were able to wrest back some control towards the end, picking four wickets for three runs to keep the target just under 300.

India need to pull off the second-highest chase at this ground to keep the series alive. Full report here.

Rohit drops Maxwell on 41

Siraj could have gotten Maxwell twice there. Firstly it falls short of deep cover and then Rohit drops it at cover. Jumped, got a hand to the ball but couldn't hold on.

DRS saves Maxwell

Full and incoming delivery, Maxwell misses and is adjudged LBW. But the ball-tracking finds the ball going down leg. Siraj will have to wait for his maiden ODI wicket. His figures stand at 0-67 at the end of 9 overs.

No wickets for Kuldeep

Finishes with 10-0-66-0. Fifth time he's finished without a wicket, and this is the most runs he's conceded in such a scenario. India have to find a way to get back to playing two leg spinners. It worked so well. But Pandya's ban and Jadhav's injuries keep upsetting their plans, agreed.

Marsh has a hundred!

With the gold-n-green tee on, he looks nothing like the Test batsman we saw nibble at deliveries outside off all summer. Surely he takes his time in ODIs, but here he is, with his 7th hundred in the format.

Interesting stat: Marsh's last three ODI hundreds have come in losses

Stoinis goes

Abhishek Ajish was right. Here falls a wicket.

Someone seems to have sprinkled that magic powder on Shami again. He's running in nice, keeping it tight and picking wickets. Gets an under-edge on this cross-batted hack by Stoinis. Such a crucial wicket, coming in the 37th over! But, but, it's Big Show time.

Cricbuzz Comm Box --> So last 15 overs to go. Marsh and Stoinis key as India look to undo their mistakes in Sydney. Here's Gaurav Kapur and Ajay Jadeja summing up all the action till the 35th over.

Harsha Bhogle: This looks a pretty good surface to bat on. Avg score in the last 10 games is 243 but it looks more like a 280-285 day

Marsh on 80*

Did you know that it's the highest score by an Australian against India all summer? #Ripleys

Siraj returns

He's given 9, 2 and 6 in his three overs so far but he needs to be much tighter if India are to stay in the series. He's been replaced by Bhuvneshwar Kumar now. Here's Zaheer Khan talking about India's problem with the third seamer.

Well, Twitter seems to be loving Jadeja

Jadeja strikes

Is he making a case for a World Cup spot or what. Ran Khawaja out and now gets Handscomb stumped. A slog-sweep, ball sneaks through and there you go: we have a MSD special. Delays the stumping teasingly and completes it just when Handcomb's foot froze.

Fifty for Marsh

All the ghosts of Test cricket are well and truly buried. Second fifty for Shaun Marsh in the series. And his 14th overall in ODIs. Hasn't gotten there in quickfire time but we all know he can catch up, right? Someone sitting beside me whispers Siraj's name.. he has 6 overs left. CricVizz suggests that Australia have won 15 out of the 19 times Marsh has crossed fifty in Test cricket.

Khawaja run out!

How good is Jadeja. Just very good. Khawaja blunts the ball to point, thinks he can take Jadeja on with a single but he's come second to this one-handed bolt throw. Kohli gave it out even before the third umpire did. Rightly so.

Siraj concedes more runs

Now if he went for 9 runs in the first over, it was 11 this time. Two boundaries in comparison to one, too. Marsh was 9 off 21 balls when he got a short ball outside off, and he pulled it away for a boundary. Khawaja hit Siraj for another pull in the over, getting a boundary behind square this time.

Siraj comes on to bowl

Lovely run-up but he's been a bit straight to start. Usman Khawaja even flicks him off the pads for a boundary, picking nine runs off Siraj's first over on debut. And Deepu Narayanan has sort of reined in my excitement with this stat:

Mohammed Siraj in his three T20I appearances: 4-0-53-1 (ER 13.25), 4-0-45-1 (ER 11.25), 4-0-50-1 (ER 12.50)

Finch goes, Carey too

4-0-8-1 ... Bhuvneshwar's bowling figures are worth mentioning before I even describe the dismissal. Angled in, headed for the stumps, and Finch's ugly bat-swing carves out an inside edge.

And then coming to the next wicket. Shami goes short in the next over, catching Carey in an awkward tangle to draw out a top-edge. That's been taken too. India are back, fellas.

Not so much of a crock-pot cricket now, is it? Life just blows you down on occasions.

Slow boil..............

They seem to be cooking this innings in a crock pot. Apologies to NBC's This Is Us fans. Australia are 14/0 after 5 overs. And Finch and Carey have batted through 21 dot balls during that time. That's 3.5 overs of defending and playing-n-missing! And stay you on, because Siraj should be coming on soon. Don't expect long spells in this searing Adelaide heat.

Bhuvneshwar and Shami start

Looks like a flat pitch. And it's a hot day -- 39 degrees now! -- so India have to sort the bowling spells out. Carey's hit a beautiful boundary off Shami already but Bhuvneshwar has been flawless with the other new ball. A bit of swing and he's playing with the angles, troubling both Finch and Carey. Also, we can't wait to see Siraj bowl.

ODI debut

Mohammed Siraj makes his ODI debut; good to see someone rewarded for a red-hot streak in the first-class and List A circle. He's replaced Khaleel Ahmed in the side, who has been struggling to make an impact. India decide to keep Yuzvendra Chahal out of the side again, preferring Ravindra Jadeja's all-round package to his.

Australia, unsurprisingly, are unchanged. Let's see how they go today. Not every you get India three down for 4 runs err..

Teams

India: Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli(c), Ambati Rayudu, MS Dhoni(w), Dinesh Karthik, Ravindra Jadeja, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Siraj, Mohammed Shami

Australia: Aaron Finch(c), Alex Carey(w), Usman Khawaja, Shaun Marsh, Peter Handscomb, Marcus Stoinis, Glenn Maxwell, Nathan Lyon, Peter Siddle, Jhye Richardson, Jason Behrendorff

Toss

Australia win the toss and bat first in searing hot Adelaide

Hello and welcome

The cosmic forces are at work to take the sheen off India's maiden win Down Under. That's what Sunil Gavaskar wrote in a newspaper column, and that's what is true. Unfortunately. The #KoffeeGate has seen KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya suspended until notice, India's loss in Sydney brought their progress two paces back, and now Ambati Rayudu's bowling action is under the scanner. What does Adelaide have in store for them? There's Vijay Shankar joining them...

Alex Carey talked about Aaron Finch's form and how a series win will mean a lot to Australia. Bhuvneshwar Kumar, while speaking to the media, revealed how he hadn't been 100% fit during the Tests, putting an end to all the speculation.

Here's the match preview by Bharat Sundaresan. Bitten by video bug? Watch our Cricbuzz LIVE experts build up to the second ODI. And lastly, here's Harsha Bhogle with another melodious build-up vlog all the way from Adelaide.
