Cricket news - Root unperturbed by England's top-order struggles

"As long as we are scoring enough runs to win games of cricket, that is the important thing."

Before the first Test against the West Indies in Barbados, England captain Joe Root says he is not worried that his team are fighting for the last top to the batting.

England have won the games eight of their last nine, but the top three batting positions are not yet nailed down. The tourists recent success has been largely built on to gain a strong and deep, middle and lower, often you have difficulties, turn difficult positions those. It is important, in the series of victories persuaded in their current version, as is the case with Sam Curran 63 against India at Edgbaston last summer, an extra 94 in the second innings runs for the last four wickets in England. They went on to win the game by just 31 runs.

England's top order woe is not a new problem - it has been a Problem since the retirements of Andrew Strauss and Jonathan Trott many moons ago - and it would be a welcome turn of events, Rory Burns, Keaton Jennings and Jonny Bairstow should, in some commanding performances in the coming three-Test series, starting on Wednesday (23 January) at Kensington Oval. It's the last piece in England would probably be is a puzzle.

Jennings and Bairstow scored hundreds in the whitewash over Sri Lanka earlier in the winter, but neither is sure to remain in their current roles, with Jennings' place in the side still threatened and Baristow not particularly happy to be batting at number three, without the wicket keeping gloves. Burns, one of the county game's most prolific run scorer, a solid half-century in the warm-up games last week, as well as a fifty-plus score in Sri Lanka, but in need of big innings to announce really, on the international stage.

Given West Indies' strength is their bowling attack, and that the Dukes ball used for the series is likely to be a longer support of the bowlers, maybe different, to fall on these three players to lay the foundations for England's strong middle. If you can't do it, the having to find the likes of Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler and Curran, perhaps to save England from the early wickets, as it is in these times in Sri Lanka and against India last summer.

"We have to play to our strengths," Root BBC Sport said. "We have to meet the expectations and to understand that it might not be the top four, the score the bulk of the runs. We have a very strong middle, and the wickets we have played to are in General difficult at the beginning, the pressure on the upper side. As long as we runs scoring enough to win, to play cricket, this is the most important thing."

Of course, Root would like to wear all of his stroke, but he is pleased England's batting depth, leaving Curran eyelash could see as low as number nine. "Maybe it is said more workload at the end of an innings," Root. "This fits the way we at the moment, it is important that the boys will always remember that. Hopefully it will turn out that we it runs guests everywhere."

After an impressive first half of the winter, is a victory in the Caribbean would be a great six months of work. With England on the rank of the five above-mentioned places West Indies in the world rankings, you have to pick up the favorites of their first series win in the region for 50 years, and yet there are possible pitfalls. West Indies full of motivation for a series against England, their bowling attack is not to be underestimated, and the tourists will have to, in order to avoid the risk of looking, in front of a huge house in the summer with the world Cup and ashes.

"You can't ignore it - it's an exciting summer to come up with a huge amount of exciting cricket," said root. "It is something that everyone is very excited. But a strong message in the locker room, which is our full concentration on this tour, in order to ensure that we do what we can to win this series. The way we played in Sri Lanka, if we can transfer a lot of that in this series, we will be truly satisfied at the end."
