To set Sri Lanka off to a disappointing start with the bat and folded up for 144, and Australia in control. In response, Australia had lost 72 for 2, Joe Burns and Usman Khawaja under the lights in the day-to-night-light.
Before the start of the series, Sri Lanka's bowling coach had stressed, a study of the way, the India bowlers bowled in their series win Down Under. By the time the Sri Lankan bowlers went in the bowl, in the hope to replicate the performance of the Indian bowlers, the match slipped from their grasp. Both Marcus Harris and Usman Khwaja was good to see the testing times under lights and set-up bat is a perfect platform for the hosts for a long time.
Pat Cummins and Jhye Richardson struck crucial blows to pin the visitors on the Mat, as Niroshan Dickwella and fought hard with his 78-ball 64. Decided the bat, both Dimuth Karunaratne and Lahiru Thirimanne were scratchy at the start and fought against Richardson in the first hour of the game. While Mitchell Starc fought, the debutant kept things in check. It was Cummins, who has to break the opening, when he had Thirimanne caught in slips.
Richardson to hit soon, sagging Dinesh Chandimal as his first Test wicket. The body blow, though, came late in the first session. Karunaratne came across a delivery that turned and bounced from Lyon glove it to the keeper. Sri Lanka went to tea break at 58 for 3 and needed Kusal Mendis and Roshen Silva back innings to revive in the second session. But they got off to a disastrous start after the break.
Richardson removed Mendis on the third ball of the second session with peach, and outsourced on-and pulled away to beat the outside edge and take off the pole. From there on the Sri Lanka innings was like being in a rudderless boat movement without purpose and without the right direction. Dhananjaya de Silva fell, caught behind driving at a wide, while Roshen was smothered by Cummins is a ball that nipped away to try to defend, and took the outer edge.
Left with no other choice, Dickwella produced to push some much-needed fireworks, a total of over 100. At one point, he is a Starc delivery get over the 'keeper for a six. The premier pacer, much to the dismay of the visitors, found its rhythm for a short while and did add to the damage. Starc dismissed Suranga Lakmal to pocket of his 200 Test wicket and then Dilruwan Perera caught at, had slipped on his tally. Dickwella is over got to his half-century with a boundary in the 52nd, before he pulled a short ball to long, Cummins his third goal of the day.
Australia made a good start, even if the conditions were in the favor of the visitors. The first five overs resulted in 20 runs, and despite the bowlers found swing and movement of the deck. Lakmal finally met in the 11., if he had burns poking at a delivery outside off. Mendis picked up a good low catch, to be sure, Burns ' s spoiled return to Test cricket. Dilruwan struck with his first delivery - with less than 10 minutes left in the day - as Khawaja hacked on a short and wide. Sri Lanka were guilty of in the length just a bit short, and may negotiate Harri, the things with ease.

He produced a peach, miss, pitched on off and left the batter just a touch to the outside of the edge and crashes into the stumps. Dhananjaya de Silva was the victim of a bad blow fell, as he chased, and a width of a Richardson and was caught behind.
