Cricket news - Windies Women to tour Pakistan after almost 15 years

There has been very little international cricket played in Pakistan after the terrorist attack on the Sri Lankan team bus in 2009

In what is considered a big boost for Pakistan cricket, the Pakistan Board Cricket on Thursday (January 24) confirmed the Windies women's team to tour Pakistan for a series of three Twenty20 Internationals towards the end of January of this year, ahead of the three ICC women's championship ODI games will be played in Dubai.

The Windies women were the last to not travel to the Asian teams to Pakistan. In the March/April 2004, in the West Indies, played, drawn Test in Pakistan and won a seven-ODI series 5-2.

"The three T20Is will be played on 31. January, 1, and 3. February at the Southend Club (Karachi), after the two sides go head-to-head in three ODIs in Dubai on 7, 9 and 11 February. The first ODI will be played at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium while the second and third ODIs will be played at the ICC Academy," said a PCB media release.

The series against the Windies comes as a further step in the direction of the revival of international cricket in Pakistan, which has seen very little action at home after a terrorist attack on the Sri Lanka team bus in March 2009.

Zimbabwe played three T20Is and three ODIs in Pakistan in may 2015, after which the World XI side led by Faf du Plessis three T20Is played in the country in 2017. Sri Lanka also played a T20I in Pakistan in the year 2017, while a second-string Windies team played three T20 games in 2018. Pakistan has also hosted some of the PSL matches in the country

The news of Windies " upcoming series, which is the first said for the Caribbean women in Pakistan since the March-April 2004, PCB Chief Operating Officer Subhan Ahmad: "the visit of the West Indies women's team in Karachi is a good news not only for Pakistan cricket but cricket in General. We are grateful to Cricket, the West Indian Islands, and your players for the level of trust in the printed circuit Board, and the agreement to play three T20Is in Karachi."

"The decision of the West Indies Cricket supports our position that Pakistan is as safe as any other country. On behalf of the Board, I would like to say that we are confident that this tour will go a long way in the full revival of international cricket in Pakistan," he added.

Johnny grave, the CEO of Cricket, the West Indian Islands, thanked the players and the support staff for the safeguarding of the Board of Directors of his decision to tour Pakistan. "This tour is another important step for our friends at the Pakistan Cricket Board, their cricket back home, and we are pleased that our players and support-field staff have recognized this and supported this.

"The concept of security, from the Board to the same level, the Windies men is organized exactly the team had confirmed last year, and independent security consultant, Eastern Star International (ESI), that both the CWI and the WIPA that you are satisfied that the risk is manageable and can be reduced to an acceptable level."

Champions of the 2016 WT20, the Windies women's side in fourth place in the ICC T20I Ranking. Pakistan are three places among them, seven.

After three rounds of the ICC women's championship, the West Indies were sitting in fourth place on nine points with four wins and as many defeats, while Pakistan are sixth, eight points with four wins and five loses.
