To defend Roshen delivery tried to play offside, but the ball held its line and took the outside edge before landing with Tim Paine.

A Cummins bouncer Dilruwan Perera struck on the right hand and forced him to retire hurt, before Mitchell Starc dismissed Suranga Lakmal to get his 200 Test wicket. There was a fire work of Dickwella late in the session, but regular wickets meant he is not left with much of a choice.

Earlier, Australia debuts to Richardson and Kurtis Patterson in front of Sri Lanka, handed over the bat decided. Dimuth Karunaratne and Lahiru Thirimanne seen fought, the first half-hour, as Starc, the perfect length.
