Cricket news - Sixers prevail over Sydney neighbour in rain-curtailed game

Daniel Hughes stroked a 27-ball 41*

In a rain-curtailed game in Sydney, the Sixers prevailed over Thunder to consolidate their standing in the top half of the points table.

Bowling first, Sixers had Thunder on the mat early as they struck regularly, starting from the third over. The middle-order trio of Callum Ferguson (26), Anton Devcich (22) and Chris Green (34 not out) tried to steady the ship but didn't go too far with that endeavour. Sean Abbott and Tom Curran picked two wickets each as Thunder could only manage 128 for 6 in 20 overs, which included an 11-run final over.

Rain delayed the start of the second innings before the chase was reduced to a 12-over affair. Sixers made a shaky start to their chase of 84 runs as Josh Phillippe was run out the first ball of the chase. However, there would be no further inroads for Thunder to make as Daniel Hughes and James Vince added a match-winning second-wicket stand worth 85 runs to see off the chase with 11 balls to spare.

Brief Scores: Sydney Sixers 85/1 in 10.1 overs (James Vince 43*, Daniel Hughes 41*) beat Sydney Thunder 128/6 in 20 overs (Chris Green 34*; Sean Abbott 2-23, Tom Curran 2-32) by 9 wickets (D/L Method)
