Cricket news - Vidarbha bounce back after Vihari resistance

Vihari scored 114 off 211.

Vidarbha bounced back in fine fashion after a morning session that Rest of India dominated on the back of Hanuma Vihari's century, with an adept 95 from Mayank Agarwal on Tuesday (February 12). After being 171 for 2 at one stage, Vidarbha's bowlers came back strongly to help bowl out RoI for 330 by stumps on the opening day of the Irani Cup.

Opting to bat, Anmolpreet Singh fell within the first ten overs, to bring Mayank and Vihari together, who stitched a 125-run stand for the second wicket to put them in front in the contest, scoring 142 in the first session, at a rate in excess of four. Vihari had edged one to the wicketkeeper when he was on zero, but the umpire's decision in his favour then had him eventually notch up a century. Mayank, however, missed out on a century after going hard after one, chipping it straight to cover for a well-made 95 off 134 balls as Vidarbha picked up four crucial wickets in the second session.

Vihari held his end while wickets fell at the other and raised his bat in a mild celebration. He, however, fell soon after for 114 to Aditya Sarwate, the star of the Ranji Trophy final who picked up three today, edging to slip after having taken his side past the 300-run mark. The last two wickets offered resistance, as Rahul Chahar and Ankit Rajpoot added 25 runs for the final wicket before both fell in quick succession as Vidarbha ended the day on a high.

Brief scores: Rest of India 330 (Mayank Agarwal 95, Hanuma Vihari 114; Aditya Sarwate 3-99, Akshay Wakhare 3-62) vs Vidarbha.
