Cricket news - Zondo, Phehlukwayo help Dolphins complete hat-trick of wins
Cape Cobras vs Dolphins, Paarl
A 103-run innings-defining stand between Khaya Zondo and Andile Phehlukwayo didn't just save the Dolphins from some early blushes but also laid the platform for what turned out to be a winning score of 276 for 7 in 50 overs. The Cape Cobras bowlers were all over the Dolphins at the start, reducing them to 71 for 4 in 18 overs, but the strong partnership followed. Even after Phehlukwayo fell, for 67 in the 39th over, short stands with Senuran Muthusamy and Calvin Savage pushed the team total past the 250-mark.
Cobras had a similar top-order wobble, down to 88 for 4 in the 23rd over and a near-identical revival via middle-order performances. But, even fifties from Kyle Verreynne and George Linde weren't enough, as they fell 22 short of the target.
Brief Scores: Dolphins 276/7 in 50 overs (Khaya Zondo 93, Andile Phehlukwayo 67; Dane Paterson 3-40, George Linde 2-50) beat Cape Cobras 254 in 49 overs (George Linde 63, Kyle Verreynne 52; Andile Phehlukwayo 4-56) by 22 runs
Knights vs Warrriors, Kimberley
Warriors made bonfire of Knights' hopes of opening their account this season, sending them hurtling to their third loss on the bounce, albeit a close one this time in a rain-hit game. The fixture in Kimberley turned out to be a bowler-v-bowler fixture, as even Jacques Snyman's exceptional effort (10-1-36-4) proved to be inadequate. On the basis of Snyman's performance, and an abysmal batting show from the Warriors, Knights bowled their opposition out for 195.
Knights were buoyed further by Keegan Petersen's 88 at No.3 but rest of the batters failed to turn up, resulting in an almighty collapse. Andrew Birch picked three wickets and conceded just 28 runs in his 10 overs, as the Knights fell from 145 for 5 to 184 all out.
Brief Scores: Warriors 195 in 45.1 overs (Matthew Breetzke 39, Andrew Birch 38; Jacques Snyman 4-36) beat Knights 184 in 46.1 overs (Keegan Petersen 88; Andrew Birch 3-28) by 11 runs (D/L method)
