Cricket news - Dolphins consolidate position after comfortable win
Robbie Frylinck and Sarel Erwee starred in Dolphins' 22-run win by DLS Method in Kingsmead, Durban in a rain-affected game on Saturday (March 2). Dolphins picked up their fourth victory in five games, placing them just behind the Warriors (18) at the top, with 16 points.
Opting to bowl the the Dolphins kept the Kings to 257/9 in their 50 overs despite a fighting 74 (off 76 balls) from wicketkeeper Rudi Second. After Frylinck struck in the third ball of the innings without the Kings opening their score, Andries Gous and Keegan Petersen steadied the innings with a 68-run stand. Wickets in a short span thereafter reduced them to 115/5 before Second's resurrection job with Ryan McLaren (47) with the pair sharing a 107-run stand for the sixth wicket. The pair fell in successive overs as Knights managed only a few more runs after.
The Knights needed early wickets with the threat of rain looming large. Marchant de Lange (3-35) gave them the start when he sent back Vaughn van Jaarsveld in the third over. Morne van Wyk (41) and Erwee (59) though, added 98 runs together, putting the Dolphins ahead of the DLS run rate. Although the pair fell before the rain interruption, to de Lange, who picked up all the three wickets, Dolphins were comfortably placed to secure a win and leave the Knights reeling at the bottom of the table, finishing with 139/3 in 27 overs.
Brief scores: Knights 257/9 in 50 overs (Rudi Second 74, Ryan McLaren 47; Robbie Frylinck 3-42) lost to Dolphins 139/3 in 27 overs (Morne van Wyk 41, Sarel Erwee 59; Marchant de Lange 3-35) by 22 runs.
