Scott Boland and Andrew Fekete shared six spoils between them as Victoria seized control of the proceedings against Tasmania at stumps on Day 2 of their Sheffield Shield game at the MCG on Wednesday. Tasmania were 234 for 8, still trailing by 220 at close of play.

Victoria, who resumed on 376 for 7, were eventually bowled out for 454. Nic Maddinson top-scored with 136, while Marcus Harris compiled a fine hand of 94. Seb Gotch (93 runs), the wicketkeeper-batter, who averaged a creditable 31.22 in the Sheffield Shield last season, also played his part. Meanwhile, Jackson Bird and Riley Meredith shared seven wickets between them.

Fekete and Boland, who also received support from Chris Tremain and Holland, took over to run through Tasmania's batting order. Only Matthew Wade, the Tasmania skipper, played with application to finish with a well-measured 86.

Brief scores: Victoria 454 (Nic Maddinson 134, Marcus Harris 94; Riley Meredith 4-86) lead Tasmania 234/8 (Matthew Wade 86; Scott Boland 3-53) by 220 runs.
