Cricket news - Wyatt, Brunt help England seal series in Guwahati

Danielle Wyatt was named Player of the Match for her unbeaten 64

Katherine Brunt shone with the ball, while Danielle Wyatt played the anchor role to perfection during the chase as England won the Guwahati T20I in comprehensive fashion and took the series 2-0 with one game still to go.

Having faltered with the bat in the first match, India went into the 2nd T20I needing their batters to come good. But, it turned out to be the same story with none of India's batters crossing 20 and the home team being restricted to a sub-par 111/8.

India had actually enjoyed a pretty solid start, racing away to 24/0 in 14 balls before the unravelling began. Captain Smrithi Mandhana edged Brunt to the wicketkeeper to give England their first breakthrough. India could never recover after that. Their next best stand was between Mithali Raj and Deepti Sharma, of 35, for the fourth wicket, but that took as many as 43 balls, knocking the wind out of India's sails.

Deepti was involved in a run-out soon after, while Mithali fell going for a big shot as India slumped to 82/5. A sub-100 total loomed, but Bharati Fulmali, with 18 of 20 balls, managed to give some respect to India's total.

Respect was never going to get India much during England's response, though. Danielle Wyatt held one end tight, scoring 64 off 55 balls to help the visitors chase down the total in the final over.

She watched as her team suffered a bad collapse, with the four other batters in the top five aggregating just 16 runs. It meant England had slid to a precarious position of 56/4 in the 11th over, leaving the game on an even keel. However, Wyatt asserted her dominance from there on to take England home, with Lauren Winfield chipping in with an aggressive 29. Fittingly, she sealed the win by hitting Deepti Sharma for four off the first ball off the final over.

Brief Scores: India 111/8 (Mithali Raj 20, Katherine Brunt 3-17) lost to England 114/5 (Danielle Wyatt 64*, Lauren Winfield 29, Ekta Bisht 2-23) by 5 wickets.
