Cricket news - Janneman Malan's century lifts Cobras to easy win
Dolphins vs Cape Cobras
Janneman Malan's quickfire century, well aided by JP Duminy's equally aggressive unbeaten 74, helped Cape Cobras register their second win on the bounce as they chased down a challenging 219-run target with eight wickets to spare. In a game reduced to 28-overs-per-side due to rain, Dolphins posted 218/6 from their quota of overs after being put in to bat first. Cobras suffered two setbacks in quick succession by the Malan and Duminy pair shared an unbroken 162-run stand for the third wicket to help Cobras over the line with two overs to spare.
Cobras were up to the task in the stiff chase but lost opener Pieter Malan and one-down batsman George Linde in successive overs. That's when Malan joined hands with Duminy to forge a massive third-wicket partnership. The former finished with an unbeaten 115 off just 83 deliveries, that included as many as 15 boundaries and a six, while Duminy hit 74 off 56 balls in a knock that consisted seven boundaries and two sixes.
Earlier in the day, Sarel Erwee's unbeaten century helped Dolphins post a competitive 218 after the frustrating rain break. He stitched a 66-run partnership with opener Vaughn van Jaarsveld and another 89-run stand with skipper Khaya Zondo to put the team on course for a 200-plus score which eventually didn't prove enough.
Brief scores: Dolphins 218/6 in 28 overs (Sarel Erwee 116*; Rory Kleinveldt 2-41) lost to Cape Cobras 220/2 in 26 overs (Janneman Malan 115*, JP Duminy 74*; Kerwin Mungroo 1-35) by eight wickets.
Knights vs Lions
The clash between bottom-two - Knights and Lions - had to be called off due to persistent rain. Rain made an appearance midway through the tenth over after Knights won the toss and asked Lions to bat first. The play could not be resumed from there on, and had to be eventually abandoned. This is Knight's third game being affected by inclement weather, while Lions are sharing the points twice due to the same.
