Cricket news - Shreevats Goswami stars in Bengal's thumping win

Shreevats Goswami hit a brisk unbeaten 86 in the chase.

Bengal vs Jharkhand, Indore

Shreevats Goswami smashed unbeaten 86 off 50 to lift Bengal to an easy win over Jharkhand as they chased down 126 in 13 overs with eight wickets in hand. Writtick Chatterjee returned figures of 4-0-12-3 while Akash Deep and Shahbaz Ahmed picked up two each to never allow Jharkhand to find any sort of momentum. They were 68 for 3 after ten overs and even though Anukul Roy (37 not out) hung around, regular wickets meant the innings got stuck in the taxiway instead of taking off.

Bengal got off to a flying start as Wriddhiman Saha (24) and Goswami smashed 67 inside seven overs for the opening wicket. It was cruise as none of the Jharkhand bowlers were able to stop Goswami.

Brief scores: Jharkhand 126/9 in 20 overs (Anukul Roy 37; Writtick Chatterjee 3-12) lost to Bengal 127/2 in 13 overs (Shreevats Goswami 86*) by eight wickets.

Vidarbha vs Uttar Pradesh, Indore

Shrikant Wagh and Akshay Karnewar collaborated to snatch a 10-run win for Vidarbha against Uttar Pradesh as they defended 143 by sharing five wickets between them. Atharwa Taide made 41 while his opening partner - Jitesh Sharma - made 22. Shalabh Shrivastava's 23 was the only other significant contribution as Vidarbha were kept to a par score.

Samarth Singh kept the chase going with a run-a-ball 39 but Uttar Pradesh slipped to 93 for 7 by the end of the 15th over. Once he was dismissed in the 19th over, Vidarbha tightened the noose and sealed the contest.

Brief scores: Vidarbha 143/7 in 20 overs (Atharwa Taide 41; Ankit Chaudhary 2-28) beat Uttar Pradesh 133/9 in 20 overs (Samarth Singh 39; Shrikant Wagh 3-25) by 10 runs.

Gujarat vs Maharashtra, Indore

Azim Kazi and Divyang Himganekar eased Maharashtra to a last-over win as they chased down 143 against Gujarat with four wickets in hand. Stuck in a tricky situation at 86 for 6, the duo collaborated to score unbeaten 63 off 32 to take the side over the line with one ball to spare.

Earlier, Chirag Gandhi (35 off 40) and Priyank Panchal (28 off 24) made handy contributions to lift Gujarat to a fighting score. With not much from the other batsmen, Gujarat weren't really able to take full toll in the last few overs.

Brief scores: Gujarat 143/9 in 20 overs (Chirag Gandhi 35; Divyang Himganekar 2-23) lost to Maharashtra 149/6 in 19.5 overs (Azim Kazi 39*) by four wickets.
