Cricket news - KKR sign Warrier for injured Nagarkoti; Ganguly to advise Capitals
Sandeep Warrier, who went unsold at the auction, has been signed by Kolkata Knight Riders for the upcoming edition of IPL. The move comes after an injury to Kamlesh Nagarkoti.
Warrier picked up eight wickets in six games - with a hat-trick against Andhra - at an economy of 5.81 for Kerala in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 tournament. KKR will be his second IPL franchise, the first being Royal Challengers Bangalore, where he was for three seasons from 2013 to 2015 but didn't get a chance to play.
The extent of the injury to Nagarkoti isn't known yet. The pacer had missed the last season as well because of a foot injury.
KKR start their campaign with a home game against Sunrisers Hyderabad on March 24.
Ganguly joins Capitals in advisory role
Delhi Capitals have roped in Sourav Ganguly in the capacity of an advisor for the upcoming Indian Premier League, the franchise announced on Thursday (March 14). Ganguly will join the think-tank of Ricky Ponting (head coach), Mohammad Kaif (assistant coach), James Hopes (bowling coach) and Pravin Amre (talent scout).
"I am very pleased to come on board with the Delhi Capitals," Ganguly said, on his association. "Having known the Jindals and the JSW Group for years, I am now excited to be a part of their latest sports venture. I am really looking forward to working with the players and the support staff," the former India captain said about his appointment.
Chairman of the franchise, Parth Jindal, felt Ganguly's experience should hold the team in good stead. "Sourav is one of the most astute minds in world cricket. A lot of what we see in Indian cricket today was born because of Sourav. His aggression, positivity and never-say-die attitude are traits we want the Delhi Capitals team to imbibe. It is truly an honour that Sourav has chosen Delhi as his IPL team. I have no doubt that our team will benefit immensely from his experience, guidance and advice. Sourav has been like family to me and I am deeply humbled to have him as an Advisor," he stressed.
Delhi have had a dismal run in the last six editions finishing at the bottom of the table thrice. The onus will be on the Shreyas Iyer-led side to give the franchise a boost when they kick-start their campaign on March 24 against Mumbai Indians in an away fixture.
