Cricket news - Live Cricket Score of South Africa vs Sri Lanka, 5th ODI

Duminy will be playing his final ODI at home.

First PP to South Africa

After losing the two wickets, Sri Lanka went through a period where they failed to score a run off 15 successive deliveries. That's a crime in modern day cricket when you have field restrictions in place. They have made only 36 in the first ten overs and need these two to rebuild.

Another one

This was loose. This was silly, Rabada is one of the best bowlers in the world, you just don't play such a loose stroke against him. Rabada doesn't even bother celebrating. Sri Lanka are in trouble here. The experienced Upul Tharanga plays a loose drive and edges one to the keeper. I think it gives you an idea of their mindset. They probably can't wait for this to get over.

Early strike

Ngidi found Avishka Fernando's outside edge only for the delivery to miss the slip fielder but off the very next ball, the batsman edges it again to get dismissed. Ball straightens after pitching to find the edge and land safely in third slip's hands.

Toss - Sri Lanka opt to bat

South Africa (Playing XI): Quinton de Kock(w), Aiden Markram, Faf du Plessis(c), Rassie van der Dussen, Jean-Paul Duminy, Dwaine Pretorius, Andile Phehlukwayo, Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje, Lungi Ngidi, Imran Tahir

Sri Lanka (Playing XI): Avishka Fernando, Upul Tharanga, Oshada Fernando, Kusal Mendis(w), Priyamal Perera, Dhananjaya de Silva, Angelo Perera, Akila Dananjaya, Thisara Perera, Isuru Udana, Lasith Malinga(c)

Build up

Sri Lanka may have surprised the world with their 2-0 win in the Test series but their ODI struggles are far from over. And with the World Cup just two and a half months away, they will be certainly feeling the heat. Are they even sure about the 15 they are going to take to England? I'm not so sure. There are reports that Chandika Hathurusingha will be getting the sack as well. For now, all they can do is focus on the final ODI today. They lost 5-0 in the ODIs last time they came to South Africa and they are 4-0 down now. The task is going to be tough though with a batting paradise expected in Newlands.

South Africa despite bossing the series, will be looking to give JP Duminy and Imran Tahir the perfect send off in their final ODI at home. Both stalwarts have announced they will retire from the format after the conclusion of the 2019 World Cup. Quinton de Kock has been going through a great run registering one century and three half-centuries in the series but South Africa will want contributions from the rest as well today. Welcome to the live blog for this final ODI. Will Sri Lanka make it 4-1 or will it another whitewash for the visitors?
