Cricket news - Live Blog - CSK vs RR, IPL 2019

Dhoni and co. will be gunning for their third straight win

CSK win

Bravo holds his nerve and CSK are through. Three wins in three for the defending champions. Dwayne Bravo successfully defends 12 off the final over, giving away just 3 runs and taking 2 wickets as CSK win.

12 needed off 6

Final over. Which way is this going?

Stokes keeps RR in the game

33 needed off 15 for RR, and Ben Stokes holds the key for the Royals. Can he take them home? Nail biting moments, now.

RR rebuild

Rahul Tripathi and Steven Smith have helped RR back into the game. A fifty run stand in good time keeps RR steady. But just as RR looked good, both batsmen fall against the run of play. RR back in trouble now.

Three early wickets

What a start for CSK. Deepak Chahar strikes in the very first over. Rahane plays an uppish drive, but only manages to hit it to point where Jadeja takes a fine catch diving forward.

Oh wait. It gets better. Sanju Samson departs cheaply too. Another drive on the up, and another low catch, this time by Suresh Raina. And Jos Buttler departs off the very next ball. RR crashing, and fast.

175 for CSK

This is superb hitting by Dhoni. He goes after Unadkat, smashing him for 28 runs in the final over as CSK end with 175 on this pitch. It looks a strong total, but dew will play its part too.

Dhoni sets sights on solid total

Dhoni has got himself to a good start here, and with CSK looking at a 130+ total, they need their captain to start tonking the ball around. What a sight that'll be for the faithful too. And they've started on the right note too. Dhawal Kulkarni goes for 24 in the 18th over as CSK close in on 140.

Dhoni goes past fifty in the next over, but Bravo falls going for a big hoick.

Raina departs

That's the wicket RR were waiting for. Jaydev Unadkat gets the better of Suresh Raina, beating the left-hander's attempted drive to castle him. Raina goes for 36, but now CSK have a decent platform.

Raina, Dhoni rebuild

CSK are slowl getting themselves back up again. Raina and Dhoni are keeping the home team in the game with a steady stand.

Jadhav departs

More trouble for the home team here. Jadhav tries to hit Dhawal Kulkarni on the up, and is caught behind. The defending champions slide to a precarious position. Can Dhoni and Raina bail them out?

Openers fall

Early success for Rajasthan Royals! Jofra Archer strikes in his first over. Gets Ambati Rayudu with a slower bouncer. Rayudu tries to ramp the ball, but can get only enough to nick it through to the 'keeper.

And the situation gets worse, as Watson hits Ben Stokes straight to Jofra Archer at very fine short third man.

Toss:

Rajasathan Royals win the toss and opt to field. "Not sure how the pitch will behave, plus the dew factor," are the factors Rahane says helped him make that decision. They have gone in with an unchanged team, while CSK have brought in Mitchell Santner, on IPL debut, for Harbhajan Singh.

INTRO:

Two wins in two for Chennai Super Kings. Two losses in two for Rajasthan Royals. A tacky pitch in the first game at Chennai. Those are the facts first up.

CSK are the only unbeaten team in this IPL and will go into the game with a lot of confidence. Three wins in three will give them a massive boost and some breathing room. Rajasthan Royals, at the other end of the spectrum, will do everything to ensure they are not three defeats down three games into the series. They need to get their campaign back on track and do it now.

The pitch at Chepauk is still an unknown proposition, and maybe that will be something that gives the away team some confidence.
