Cricket news - Javeria Rauf returns for South Africa ODIs, T20Is

Kainat Imtiaz makes a return to the T20 setup

Javeria Rauf returns to Pakistan's limited-overs squad for away ODI and T20I series against South Africa next month. The 30-year-old all-rounder last turned out for Pakistan in an ODI in January 2014.

For the three ODIs, part of ICC Women's Championship in which Pakistan sits one point behind South Africa at the sixth spot, Pakistan has made only one other change - uncapped Rameen Shamim replaces off-spinner Saba Nazir - in the 14-women squad that defeated the Windies 2-1 in the UAE.

ODI Squad (in alphabetical order): Bismah Maroof (captain), Aiman Anwar, Aliya Riaz, Diana Baig, Javeria Wadood Khan, Jaweria Rauf, Kainat Imtiaz, Nahida Khan, Nashra Sundhu, Nida Dar, Rameen Shamim, Sana Mir, Sidra Amin, Sidra Nawaz (wicketkeeper), Omaima Sohail

For the shortest format, two changes have been made from the squad of 14 that played West Indies as Anam Amin and Natalia Pervaiz are replaced by Javeria and Kainat Imtiaz. Shamim has also been included in the 15-women lineup.

Fareeha Mehmood, Fatima Sana, Muneeba Ali, and Saba Nazir have been named as the four reserves.

T20I squad (in alphabetical order): Bismah Maroof (captain), Aiman Anwar, Aliya Riaz, Diana Baig, Iram Javed, Javeria Wadood Khan, Jaweria Rauf, Kainat Imtiaz, Nashra Sundhu, Nida Dar, Rameen Shamim, Sana Mir, Sidra Amin, Sidra Nawaz (wicketkeeper), Omaima Sohail

"We have rewarded the girls for their outstanding achievements against the Windies girls by maintaining consistency in the ODI squad, while we have made some tweaks in the T20I squad as we look forward to next year's ICC Women's T20 WC 2020," said Urooj Mumtaz, chair of women's selection committee, while announcing the squad in Karachi.

"We have a good bunch of cricketers who have displayed their capabilities and potentials against the Windies girls and previous series. When we played South Africa in an ODI series last time, we narrowly lost 1-2, but I am hopeful we will be able to build on our success against the Windies girls and be able to do one better this time on the African safari.

"We have an excellent mix of senior and junior cricketers. I am sure under the wings of the experienced girls, the youngsters will thrive and make optimum use of the increased opportunities as these are extremely interesting times for women's cricket as far as more chances of exposure and experience exist, with enhanced performance-related incentives."

Over the course of the next two weeks, starting Monday, the women's team will hold practice sessions, including practice matches, at the Southend club in Karachi.

Earlier, the 24 probables played two fifty overs practice matches before the final squads were announced. The squads were announced during the innings break of the third practice match.

Pakistan leave for South Africa on April 29 and play them in three ODIs on May 6, 9, and 12 with the first two matches at Potchefstroom and the last at Benoni. The five-match T20I series starts off at Pretoria on May 15 before moving to Pietermaritzburg for the second and the third match on May 18 and 19. The last two T20Is will be played in Benoni on May 22 and 25.
