Ravichandran Ashwin -- KXIP captain and Man of the Match: We probably thought we were 10-15 runs short on this pitch and I thought Arshdeep bowled really well in the first few overs. We had some plans for Jos and he really executed well. He (Arshdeep) can actually swing the ball both ways and for a left-hander to swing both ways is a massive advantage in the first six as we have seen with Deepak Chahar in the CSK. We are looking forward to Arshdeep doing some great things in the tournament. For me, it's about getting various lengths with different speeds and trying to get the batsman with under cutter and reverse carrom. I worked on a lot of things despite people actually calling me for trying too many things, I kept on going. Most of the changes are actually forced, we got Moises into the eleven today. He was actually handed the cap but unfortunately he got injured in the last minute. Miller wasn't playing but he came in and played a vital hand for us, he took a couple of catches as well. We are waiting on Mujeeb's status (injury) and Moises (Henriques) seems okay.
Ajinkya Rahane -- RR captain: 182 on that wicket was quite chaseable. We started well. Just a matter of two sixes. A game like this, you can't criticise too much. Our bowlers bowled well. In a chase like this, you can't lose too many wickets in a bunch. Discussion between me and Stuart was take it deep. Tripathi started really well. Should learn from our mistakes. These things happen in T20 cricket. Our two legspinners in the middle overs were brilliant. Jofra's four overs were critical.
KXIP win by 12 runs
Rajasthan Royals lost their way after the 59-run partnership between Tripathi and Samson. Losing Buttler early did not help either. They scored only 48 runs and lost 3 wickets in between overs 10 and 17. Rahane could not get going, Turner went for a first-ball duck on IPL debut and Binny's cameo late on was not enough to get the visitors over the line.
Binny gives hope..
Having played only once before today's game, Stuart Binny provides Rajasthan Royals with hope when the game seemed lost. The right-hander, having lost most of his partners, keeps his side in the game with his power-hitting. He takes a particular liking to Arshdeep Singh, striking him for two sixes in the 19th over.
FIFTY and OUT!
Rahul Tripathi cancelled out Rahul's innings with a similar knock. The opener got off the blocks quickly but lost his momentum in the middle overs and when he was finally dismissed by Ashwin, he had eaten up 45 balls for his fifty.
Batsmen cautious at the non-striker's end
Sanju Samson and Tripathi made sure Ashwin does not get the opportunity to run them out in his delivery stride as they were watchful while backing up and left the crease only after the ball was released. However, Ashwin did break the 59-run partnership by cleaning up Samson.
Dream maiden wicket!
Arshdeep Singh trusted with new ball duties delivers for Kings XI Punjab by sending back Buttler for 23. The youngster deceived the Englishman with a clever change of pace and provided the hosts with their first wicket.
Both teams don't go with the tried and tested formula. Rahul Tripathi is given a promotion and he opens with Jos Buttler, while Ashwin gives the new ball to 20-year-old debutant Arshdeep Singh and he started with a good over, just 4 runs off it.
Ashwin to the rescue
Ravichandran Ashwin's 4-ball 17 ensured KXIP went past the 180-mark. The home side lost their way towards the end after the dismissal of KL Rahul, but the skipper smashed Dhawal Kulkarni for a boundary and a couple of sixes to finish the innings on a high. Most of KXIP's batsmen got starts and their essay revolved around Rahul, who played the anchor's role with a slowly fifty. Rajasthan Royals, with a slew of changes, need a clinical performance from their batsmen to chase this down.

A different KL Rahul
This season has seen a change in KL Rahul's batting. Unlike last year where he was striking at 158.4, the Kings XI Punjab opener is hitting them at 127.7. His innings today of 52 off 47 balls set the platform alright, but did it rob the hosts of momentum? Only time will answer that.
Ish Sodhi into action
Mayank Agarwal was off the blocks in a flash, striking a couple of sixes and a four against the two legspinners - Sodhi and Gopal. But played one shot too many and gave the New Zealand leggie his first wicket of the season.

Remember what happened when Kings XI Punjab faced Rajasthan Royals last time? Ravichandran Ashwin mankaded Jos Buttler and it turned out to be the biggest talking point in the IPL 2019. The move helped KXIP to open their campaign with a win, while RR were hit mentally as they went on to lose their next two games as well.
That incident has played its role for both the teams as Ashwin and Co. have rode their luck a bit to come out on top in some encounters, whereas the Rahane-led side have lost some close matches. However, it is Rajasthan who come into this fixture with a win on their back, having beaten Mumbai Indians.
The two sides have shuffled around their squads and are still searching for the perfect combination. Ashwin sometimes has gone horses for courses and Rahane had to change his XI because of 5 losses in the first six games. Expect there to be some changes today as well.
