Post-match thoughts

Varun Aaron, MoM: Everything is fine. It was just cramps which got resolved in half an hour. I always believe in myself. I felt that the one over which I bowled in the previous game, didn't do much wrong in that. Feeling great, as good as ever. Want to play for my country and win matches.

Smith | RR captain: We made it difficult for ourselves. We lost too many wickets in the middle section after a good start. Riyan Parag .. isn't he an impressive young man? He played very composed like a seasoned campaigner. Great contribution from Gopal and Archer too. I thought they bowled really well with the new ball, first 7-8 overs. Oshane did well in his first game. Varun Aaron was exceptional with the new ball. The boys did a great job. There was some really good shots from DK, who played a terrific innings. Happy to get over the line. The first 5-6 games, we weren't able to creep over the line. It's good to creep over the line tonight. We lose a few players now. Jofra and Stokesy are off tonight, they go back to England now - two big holes to fill. I am here for 13 games. After the Bangalore one, I'll be heading back. Hopefully, I can contribute and see if we can get few more wins.

Jofra Archer: I just wanted to get bat on ball in the last over. I am really gutted that I have to leave the boys. Moments like these make me cherish playing for RR. I hope that we qualify for playoffs. We have a great bunch of guys here, anyone who will replace me will do a great job. I am grateful for Rajasthan for taking the chance on me as I have not played any international cricket. They took a very big risk for having me.

Dinesh Karthik | KKR captain: Little disappointed. Thought we were in it to win, but it wasn't our day. I have kept saying that winning always feels good, but when you lose close games like this you feel 'wow, when are we gonna get there'. (The plan in the final over) We were looking to go full and on the stumps, obviously the first edge didn't help and then the equation got easier. Second shot was a good shot. You can't put too much pressure on the bowler. Wet ball; dew on outfield, it didn't help us. Happy with the way boys fought, not happy with the result. A lot of it will boil down to how much they trust me as a leader. It's important to keep the mood of the dressing room good. The fact that we are not able to cross the winning line is not a good feeling.

Two length balls and Archer strikes a four and a six to seal a win. Poor two balls from Prasidh Krishna. Two length balls and it was all too easy for Archer. Brilliant from Parag as well.

9 needed in the last over!

Drama! Bouncer from Russell after being hit for a six. Parag swung hard and smashed the stumps with his bat. He's taken RR close.

RR still need 9 off 7. Parag falls for 47

Prasidh Krishna's 18th over - 1, 1, 1, 1, 4, 0, 6. RR need 18

31 needed in the last three overs. Which team are you backing?

Gopal's stay isn't a long one. With the asking rate climbing, he goes for the big one and doesn't connect. Easy catch for long-off. Prasidh Krishna gets a rare IPL wicket.

RR need 52 off 27

Five overs left, 54 needed, five wickets in hand

See the spinners off and take on the pacers. But Binny doesn't believe in that theory. Wanted to launch Chawla and smashed an easy catch to deep miwicket. Chawals becomes the first bowler to take a three-wicket haul for KKR this season. Tells you how poor their bowling has been.

RR 98 for 5

Two for Narine and two for Chawla. Spinners have put KKR on top here. Stokes in the man dismissed. Googly and he wanted to launch that one. Didn't time it and Russell takes a good catch just over his head at long-on.

RR 79 for 4

At the half-way mark, RR have 78 on the board and have lost three wickets. Parag and Stokes are rebuilding the innings. They now need 98 off 60.

How often do you see Narine celebrate? He's pumped. He's got the big wicket. Length ball and it skids off the surface. Smith swipes at that one and missed. Off stump is knocked over and KKR are on top now. RR have thrown away their fast start. They are now 63 for 3

Now KKR are right back in it. Samson was in two minds and wanted to sweep. It was too full and was a googly. Samson changed his mind very late and doesn't even connect on the defence. RR 57 for 2

Narine gets Rahane after a fast start. Full and straight. Beats the inside edge and traps Rahane in front. But RR are off to a fast start and need to build on from here.

RR 53 for 1

Three overs done, RR are looking positive in the chase and have 30 on the board without losing a wicket.

Rahane and Samson out to open. Brathwaite to start ...

Highest IPL scores for KKR

158* Brendon McCullum vs RCB (Bangalore) 2008

97* Dinesh Karthik vs RR (Kolkata) 2019

94 Manish Pandey vs KXIP (Bangalore) 2014

93* Chris Lynn vs GL (Rajkot) 2017

93 Gautam Gambhir v RCB (Kolkata) 2012

RR SET 175

Karthik ends with 97 not out - his highest IPL score.

You have to say this is a par score. Russell didn't fire on the night but there's pace and bounce on the track. Aaron and Oshane Thomas were exceptional. RR lost their way in the last three overs. Pressure will on the struggling bowlers of KKR to keep things in check. Good recovery in the last ten overs considering KKR were 49 for 3 after 10.

Brathwaite gone

KKR are losing the plot in the last few overs. Length ball on the pads from Unadkat. He didn't time it. Taken by Rahane at midwicket. KKR 131 for 6

14 off 14 tonight for the allrounder. He was struggling with injuries and never really got going. Was dropped twice and caught at deep midwicket this time.

KKR 121 for 5

Dinesh Karthik brings up a 35-ball 50 and Andre Russell is dropped next ball.

No, no, no!

Stuart Binnny, you don't do that. Short and wide outside off. Cut to Binny at deep point. He's dropped RUSSELL. Next ball, smashed for a six.

KKR 106 for 4

He's done his job this game. Two wickets, a catch, a run out so far. Though he was hit for a six and a boundary in the last over, this was a superb performance on the night. Six overs to go. How many will KKR get?

ANDRE RUSSELL IS OUT TO BAT! Narine run out as Karthik pushed him for two. Is this a blessing in disguise for the hosts? Flicked to fine leg and Karthik was always looking for two. Narine hesitated and ended up giving away his wicket.

Shreyas Gopal to Karthik in 11th over

6, 4, 4, 4, 1, 6 (Narine)

KKR finally moving on? 25 runs from that over as they move to 75 for 3 now.

Narine and Karthik out there batting now. Runs haven't come so far. They have just 49 on the board and have lost three wickets. Unless we see mayhem from Russell in the remainder of the innings, we will have match with a paltry score on the board.

It's been tough going for KKR and they've now lost their third wicket. Length ball outside off and cut straight to point. It's been tough going and the hosts are scoring at less than six runs per over. They are clearly a team under a lot of pressure with batsmen struggling to put together performances.

He's been bowling with good pace but lack of it does Gill this time. Inside edge and the ball crashes into the stumps. Dinesh Karthik comes in bat at No. 4

Superb start this from Aaron. He's bowling at good pace and is extracting good bounce. The third delivery nips in as well. Chopped back on from the opener. KKR have lost a wicket even before they have a run on the board.

Lynn and Gill out to open, Varun Aaron to start with the ball ...

Kolkata Knight Riders (Playing XI): Chris Lynn, Sunil Narine, Shubman Gill, Nitish Rana, Dinesh Karthik(w/c), Rinku Singh, Andre Russell, Carlos Brathwaite, Piyush Chawla, Yarra Prithviraj, Prasidh Krishna

TOSS - RR win the toss and opt to field. Changes for KKR - Prasidh comes in for Cariappa. Brathwaite is in for Gurney.

ICYMI - This will be the last game Archer and Stokes will feature in for RR. They fly back to join the national side for their preprations for the World Cup. No Buttler as well. He's back in England.

Hello and welcome to the live blog of the 43rd IPL 2019 match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals in Kolkata. The visitors are at the bottom of the table. KKR are running out of time as well. These are desperate times for both teams.

RR find themselves in a situation where they need to win all their matches from hereon and yet live with the possibility of not making it to the playoffs. Under Steve Smith, though, the side has given enough evidence that they still have a stomach for a fight. Jaydev Unadkat has become the bowler he was under Smith's captaincy in Pune, Ajinkya Rahane has found his timing back and the team is punching better as a unit.

KKR are drawing flak from all quarters. Their bowling has been poor. Their batsmen, apart from Russell, are struggling for form. They haven't figured out where Russell should bat. All and all, these are not good times for the side.
