DC have won five of their last six fixtures

Five down!

Five down!

Navdeep Saini turns his fingers over for a cutter and Colin Ingram takes the bait. The Kotla pitch has swiftly gotten slower today, after having started as an ally of DC's stroke-making batsmen at the top of the order. Ingram tried to shuffle across and play a scoop shot but ended up hitting it straight to Washington Sundar at short fine leg. DC 141/5 in 16.5 overs

Shreyas Iyer falls!

Shreyas Iyer falls!

RCB are putting a spin choke on DC here. Iyer looked to continue his stroke-making from the previous over to whack Washington Sundar too. Only this time, Virat Kohli was fielding well within the boundary line at deep square leg and gobbled up the catch that came his way. Iyer departed for a 37-ball 52, leaving Colin Ingram and Sherfane Rutherford to give DC a flying finish.

Chahal strikes again!

Chahal strikes again!

Rishabh Pant was not sure but reviewed the LBW call anyway. His skipper Shreyas Iyer was at the other end and he's probably approved it. Excellent comeback from the RCB leggie after being whacked for two sixes by Iyer. To Pant, Chahal got one to turn sharply, and hit the left-hander on the front foot when he was trying to play it down the leg-side. Replays confirmed the umpire's original decision that sent Pant back for a seven-ball seven.

Chahal removes Dhawan

Chahal removes Dhawan

There goes the DC opener. Falls right after getting to a swift half-century. Dhawan looked to sweep Chahal away but showed his cards a bit too early. Chahal tossed one up outside the off-stump to ensure Dhawan had to reach out for the ball. The result was a top-edge straight to the fine leg fielder. Dhawan walks off for a 37-ball 50.

Halfway stage - DC 88/1 in 10 overs

DC are acing this game here. Playing as if they're not sure when the Kotla pitch will be so kind on their line-up. The four post-PowerPlay overs have fetched 29 runs, taking the hosts to 88 for 1 in 10 overs. Shikhar Dhawan's purple patch stretches ahead as he's looking set for another half-century. With nine wickets in hand and the Colin Ingram, Rishabh Pant and Sherfane Rutherford to bat next, they'll fancy themselves to score at least 100 runs off the next 60 balls.

End of PowerPlay - DC 59/1 in 6 overs

What a start! DC players will be pinching themselves to figure out if they really were batting on this year's Kotla wicket. How much changes the moment you play at 4 pm instead of 8. Shikhar Dhawan has been free-flowing on a favourable surface and RCB have struggled so far - Virat Kohli has had to change his bowlers around a lot - Umesh has already bowled three which means one of the spinners have to share death-bowling duties, unless Shivam Dube is going to be trusted with such a tough task (unlikely). Washington Sundar has bowled just one over - the second of the innings - but there's surely more in store for him since RCB might not have different options.

WICKET - Prithvi Shaw is gone!

WICKET - Prithvi Shaw is gone!

DC's fast start has brought RCB a wicket. Shaw's feet didn't move when he tried to cut a length delivery too close to his body and ended up nicking it to Parthiv Patel behind the stumps. Wicket has come against the run of play but RCB will gladly take it.

Shikhar Dhawan's turned his approach around this season. After having begun as a cautious opener expected to drop anchor for the other top-order batsmen to blaze away, he has started to score very quickly. Today, he's taken apart Yuzvendra Chahal, who Kohli has surprisingly turned to inside the PowerPlay overs. One six and two fours in the 15-run over.

A move RCB had considered last season but didn't go through properly with it. There's only three games to go this season, but out came the offie. Prithvi Shaw won his battle with the Sundar, hitting him for two successive boundaries in a nine-run over.

TOSS: Delhi Capitals win toss, opt to bat. Sandeep Lamichhane returns for Chris Morris; RCB pick Heinrich Klaasen, Shivam Dube and Gurkeerat Singh Mann for Moeen Ali, Tim Southee and Akshdeep Nath.

About those changes....

About those changes....

- RCB have curiously gone a bit light on their bowling. With Southee dropped, RCB only have two pace options in Umesh Yadav and Navdeep Saini - both of who will be expected to bowl at the start and the death. The middle-overs thus, will belong to their army of spinners - Yuzvendra Chahal, Washington Sundar and Gurkeerat Singh Mann. It will also be interesting to see how RCB utilise the part-time medium pace of Shivam Dube. They've also brought in Heinrich Klaasen, who should slot in anywhere in the middle-order.

- DC are a more settled unit considering their recent results. Just their second win at home came earlier this week, enabling them to be clear about what they need at home. Hence, in comes leggie Sandeep Lamichhane for Chris Morris.

Prelude - DC a win away from playoffs qualification

Prelude - DC a win away from playoffs qualification

So the 2019 season of IPL has arrived at such a fascinating turn - Delhi Capitals - the perennial underachievers - are on the cusp of playoffs qualification. They've not necessarily had too many individual performers with the bat - Shikhar Dhawan has regained his old touch slowly and is DC's leading run-scorer with 401 runs. But he's seventh overall in the league and no other DC batsman features in the top 10. There's Kagiso Rabada at the top of the bowlers' chart but there has been a lot of combined efforts through the season - particularly in the recent streak where they've won five in six matches.

RCB don't have such luck as they sit low in the second half of the points table. But they arrive with a three-match winning streak which has kept them alive, if only just. They'd be keen to ruin DC's qualification plan and keep their alive instead.
