Cricket news - Live Cricket Score - Kings XI Punjab vs Kolkata Knight Riders, Match 52, IPL 2019
That's all from us folks! Hope you enjoyed the Gill show. Until next time then ...
Shubman Gill | Man of the Match: It feels great, my first MoM at my home ground. Can't get better than this. It was important to build partnership. The run-rate was going around 9-10, so that's when I decided I had to stay in there. Even some relatives from my village came to watch so it's great to play in front of everyone. We have one more match to go, and it would be very nice if we can win that and make it into the play-offs.
Dinesh Karthik: We live to fight another day. It's been a hard few days. I wasn't too happy with the way the bowlers and the fielders were doing, so I thought I should let the boys know what I felt at that time. It si rare, not many people have seen me angry. If I feel I need to be angry to get the best out of the boys, then maybe. The last over went for 10 runs too many, but we have to give it to Sam Curran. IPL is that kind of a tournament where someone comes in and scores runs for you, so there's that balance. It's a big ground, but we did the small things well. Ran well, put pressure on the bowler, and good execution on the batsmen. It's fair that we have given Gill a chance at the top of the order, and he has grabbed the opportunity with both hands.
Chris Lynn: It is good to play with smile, we missed that in the last couple of games. Boys put on a good show tonight. He(DK) lost his bowels there but that is DK and we have lived upto it in the last couple of weeks. We got a couple of wickets early but Sam Curran got them to a decent total in the end. We were clinical with the bat. It was a good wicket, momentum is massive in this game. We lost it in the back end but grabbed it back quickly. Gill was brilliant for us. I am not a TV person but will be glued with the TV for the Sunrisers game tomorrow.
Ashwin: It's been a par total. We have defended 175-180 before but we knew very well that there's gonna be dew in the second half and I thought they batted really well. Starting with Lynny and then Gill played superbly. We bowled well in the first three overs and then it just got a little away from us and obviously that edges didn't help. Massive positives for us with respect to Pooran and Sam. Sam batted beautifully, we all know he is got the ability and he's got the fight in him and he pulled off pretty well.
KKR win by seven wickets; KXIP all but eliminated
Total class from Gill. For the second consecutive game he's made a telling impact on the game. He finishes unbeaten on 65 and ensures KKR stay alive in the tournament. They now need to win the game in Mumbai and hope SRH lose to RCB.
Lynn scored runs and Russell eased the pressure. But Gill timed the chase to perfection. After being 34 off 31, he attacked Ashwin in the 12th over to turn the game in KKR's favour.
18 needed in the last three overs ...
50-run stand comes up but Shami has managed to dismiss Russell. Short ball and pulled to midwicket. He's scored 24 off 14 but KKR on course to seal a win. KKR need just 34 off 31 now.
KKR 150 for 3
50 for Gill
Second consecutive century for Gill. He's keeping KKR on course. Takes 18 from Ashwin's fourth over. They now need just 56 off 42 deliveries.
KKR 128 for 2
Uthappa fails to convert another start. Carrom ball and smashed straight to long-off. Ashwin is pumped. Andre Russell walks out to bat at No. 4.
KKR 100 for 2
10 overs done
KKR on course to chase the target down. Uthappa has come in and kept the momentum going. They now need 86 off 60 balls now.
KKR 98 for 1
Lynn show so far but it's ended. He had raced to 46 off 22 and wanted to go for a big one against Tye. Back of length delivery and doesn't connect well. First wicket but he's done some damage. After taking on Arshdeep, Lynn took on Ashwin as well. Second consecutive half-century stand between Lynn and Gill. Pressure right back on KXIP to pull things back.
KKR 62 for 1
Both Lynn and Gill are looking for quick runs but KXIP bowlers have started well. Pressure on young Arshdeep Singh as he has leaked 24 from his two overs. Shami was good but he seemed to have pulled a neck muscle.
KKR 35 for no loss
Lynn and Gill to open, Shami to open with the ball ...
KKR set 184
Both teams kept fighting to gain some sort of advantage and KXIP will be the happier side. No demons in the track. KXIP lost two early but Pooran was exceptional. He helped KXIP recover from the early wickets and scored 48. No real support for him from Mandeep or Mayank. But Curran propped up the side in the death overs to give the team a fighting score. KKR still in the game but need something special to scale this target.
150 up for KXIP. Two overs to go ...
Five overs to go, KXIP have 125 for 4 on the board. How many more will they get?
Narine wasn't too pleased but he's got a run out. He dropped the ball but ball breaks the stumps after popping out from his hands. Mayank falls after settling in. Superb throw from Rinku.
KXIP 111 for 4
100 up for KXIP in the 12th over ...
Nitish Rana's 7 IPL victims
Ajinkya Rahane AB de Villiers Virat Kohli Risabh Pant Parthiv Patel Darcy Short Nicholas Pooran
Pooran has thrown it away. Short ball and pulled straight to the fielder at cow corner. Nitish Rana gets the wicket. KKR couldn't have asked for anything better. He falls for 48 and looked set to push on and take KXIP to a massive score. The ball was there to be hit but the execution was poor. Lucky break for the visitors.
KXIP 91 for 3
10 overs done
Superb recovery this from KXIP after losing their openers. Pooran has done all the damage while Mayank has been a mere spectator. KKR players don't seem too happy on the field. Narine wasn't particularly pleased when he wasn't allowed to bowl to Pooran. Karthik too had a go at his players at the time out. All's well? Not really.
KXIP 84 for 2
End of powerplay
So slow start then for KXIP and it's expected. Two big wickets in the first six overs for the visiting side. Gayle and Rahul both fell to loose strokes. But Pooran is getting settled in and is scoring freely now.
KXIP 41 for 2
Two for Warrier
He's now got Gayle. Perfect start for KKR. Back of length ball from the pacer and pulled straight to square leg. Couldn't have picked the fielder better.
KXIP 22 for 2
KL falls to the Warrier's slower ball. He was beaten by the lack of the pace and chips a catch to mid-on. KKR needed this wicket and KXIP have been dented early.
KXIP 18 for 1
Alright folks! Gayle and Rahul walk out to open, Warrier will start with the ball and we are all set. Are you ready for this cracker?

TOSS - KKR opt to field.
ICYMI - In some news away from this clash, Kagiso Rabada will miss the remainder of IPL 2019 because of a back injury.
Hello and welcome to the live blog of the IPL 2019 match between Kings XI Punjab and Kolkata Knight Riders in Mohali. Both teams need a win to stay alive. Even wins in their last two matches won't carry them to the playoffs and both teams need other results going their way as well.
As much as their ability to grab victories from nowhere in the first five games impressed everyone, heavy defeats in the slump that followed has pushed Dinesh Karthik and Co. into quicksand. Now they desperately need to find the right technique to save their lives.
The story is slightly different for Kings XI Punjab, although not too dissimilar, after all, they find themselves a spot below KKR on net run rate. Three wins out of the first four games and it all looked great for Ravichandran Ashwin's troops. But they steered themselves into turbulent clouds with that unacceptable choke against Chennai Super Kings and it's been a really bumpy ride since then.
They have lost four of their last five games, thanks to their failure to close out key moments - or the lethargy manner in which they threw away games from winning situations.
