Paul and injury

Paul seems to be in some trouble. He has taken off his shoes. Ankle? Cramp? Calf problem? The physio is giving him attention. He is back up on his feet and now returning to the pavilion.

Parag stands alone amidst ruins

Parag is trying to take RR to a score of some respectability. The middle order batsman thumped Ishant for a couple of boundaries. A score of around 120 could give RR an outside chance.

Mishra misses on hat-trick!

For a while Parag and Gopal tried to prop up the innings. Parag even cracked an impressive slog sweep off Mishra. However, Mishra had the last laugh when he lured Gopal to jump down the track only to be stumped. Mishra then got turn and bite to find the edge of Binny's bat with Pant plucking a sharp catch.

More action and drama! Mishra could have picked up his fourth hat-trick in the history of IPL but Boult fluffed the chance. Mishra has hands on his head. Gowtham went for an all mighty heave only to get a thick edge. It was in the air for long but Boult couldn't grab it. Mishra himself could have gone for the catch.

And now a run out

Oh, what a terrible mix up. Lomrar seemed to be looking at the fielder and Samson, the striker, ran through only to be run out. Complete miscommunication as Lomrar kept shouting at Samson not to pinch the single after he had dabbed one to cover point.

RR's troubles didn't end there as Lomror got a thick edge to the 'keeper. Ishant rewarded for his variations as he picks up his third scalp.

More trouble for RR

Ishant is certainly learning the tricks of the trade. We have seen him use the knuckle ball and cutters effectively in this game so far. He defeated Livingstone with his variation and snuffed through his defences. RR's batsmen need to respect the surface. Not exactly a track for playing on the up and through the line.

Rahane falls

Unfortunately for RR, Rahane played too early while facing Ishant and could only eke out a leading edge to Dhawan. The ball stopped on Rahane and that isn't an encouraging sign for the batsmen. Credit to Ishant for using the knuckleball.

Livingstone on the move

A slow start for RR. The occasional ball is stopping on the batsman. Livingstone and Rahane need to look at clever rotation. Eventually, it was Livingstone who took the gauntlet by charging down the track and smashing Ishant over midwicket. Livingstone, who plays for Lancashire, can give it a mighty thump.

Captain comments:

Shreyas Iyer - It's an important game for us, we need to have a mindset of playing every game as a knock-out match, we are in a good mood as a team. Our batsmen love to bat on good bouncy wickets, this been a slow wicket - we didn't expect it, but we can't blame the wickets for our poor show here. Two changes for us, Keemo and Ishant are in, they replace Suchith and Chris Morris.

Ajinkya Rahane - We will bat first. The wicket looks dry, not sure how it will play, might get slower and slower, will look to put the runs on the board. For me, the team comes first, I respect their decisions, it's a great challenge and it's important to play well and win. We have a couple of changes, Ish Sodhi and Krishnappa Gowtham are in, for Smith and Unadkat. It's all about giving our best.

Good to see Keemo Paul getting a chance. On slower surfaces, he could turn out to be useful with his deceptive off cutter, the knuckleball and batsmen tend to find it difficult to pick his variations due to his quick arm action.

Rajasthan Royals have won the crucial toss and opted to bat. The track might slow down as the game progresses.

Pitch conditions

"There isn't a blade of grass, absolutely bone dry. It's quite hard, but there shouldn't be a lot of bounce. Bowl straight lines, it should turn, it's very hot and a score around 160 should be competitive. A bat-first wicket," declares Graeme Swann, in his pitch report.

Tracks in Delhi this season have been mostly slow but this one seems to be a tad harder underneath.

Build Up:

As we get to the business end of the IPL 2019, there is a mid-table tussle with a string of teams eyeing for the fourth and final slot in the playoffs.

RR, one of teams placed in the mid-table muddle, would look to find the escape route through the long tunnel when they take on Delhi Capitals in a do-or-die game. The escape route, however, depends on results of other teams. The franchise has to beat DC in their final match of the league phase and hope that SRH lose to RCB and neither KKR nor KXIP would win more than one of their remaining matches.

So will RR spin tales and find a way despite missing out on mainstays like Buttler, Archer and Smith? What about DC? Can they win their last game of the league phase and end up among the top two teams? The Delhi franchise would have to play without their spearhead Kagiso Rabada for the rest of the tournament after the South African was ruled out due to a back issue.

Fasten your seat belts as we will have all the action in a while.
