Cricket news - Gony to retire from Indian cricket, signs up for Global T20 Canada

A day after being named in the squad of Toronto Nationals for the upcoming season of Global T20 Canada, former India quick Manpreet Gony, on Saturday, called time on his career.

Gony is the second Punjab cricketer who bid adieu to the game in the recent days after World Cup star Yuvraj Singh. Interestingly, Yuvraj is also signed by the Toronto Nationals in the player draft to play in the second season of the league, commencing on July 25.

The 36-year-old Gony has represented India in two ODIs besides playing 61 First Class matches and 90 T20 matches. He made his ODI debut against Hong Kong on June 25, 2008 and played his final ODI against Bangladesh June 28, the same year.

In the domestic circuit, the right-arm medium pacer made his FC debut against Andhra Pradesh on November 3, 2007 and played his last game against Bengal on January 7, 2019.

Commenting on Gony's retirement, Punjab Cricket Association spokesperson Sushil Kapoor said: "Manpreet Singh Gony had been potent weapon in the armoury of Punjab pace attack for many years. PCA management wishes him a happy and purposeful retired life"
