Cricket news - Priest, Mandhana give Storm fifth consecutive win

Rachel Priest and Smriti Mandhana scored 133 for the opening wicket.

Yorkshire Diamonds vs Western Storm, York

Western Storm cruised to a nine-wicket win, polishing off the 151-run target set by Yorkshire Diamonds in under 15 overs to win their fifth consecutive game in the Women's Cricket Super League 2019. Rachel Priest and Smriti Mandhana scored 133 for the opening wicket in the chase to shut the door on Diamonds before Alice Richards dismissed the latter in the 14th over.

For Diamonds, Hollie Armitage scored 59 off 56 but found very little support from the other batters as a middle-order meltdown cost them the game. From being 107 for 2, they slipped to 139 for 5 and never recovered from that.

Brief scores: Yorkshire Diamonds 151/9 in 20 overs (Hollie Armitage 59) lost to Western Storm 152/1 in 14.5 overs (Rachel Priest 72*, Smriti Mandhana 70) by nine wickets.

Surrey Stars vs Loughborough Lightning, Guildford

Mignon du Preez smashed 70 off 41 to ease Loughborough Lightning to a seven-wicket win in a 120-run chase as they picked up their second win. Surrey Stars were restricted to a modest score as Kathryn Bryce and Hayley Matthews picked up two wickets each. Lizelle Lee, Natalie Sciver and Dane van Niekerk got starts but none went past 25 to really stamp their authority.

Lightning slipped to 31 for 3 but du Preez collaborated with Georgia Adams (34) to score 92 for the fourth wicket and seal the contest.

Brief scores: Surrey Stars 120/7 in 20 overs (Hayley Matthews 2-12) lost to Loughborough Lightning 123/3 in 14.5 overs (Mignon du Preez 70*) by seven wickets.
