Cricket news - Hampshire rope in Shamsi for the remainder of T20 Blast

This will be Shamsi's second stint in the T20 Blast

South Africa's left-arm wrist spinner Tabraiz Shamsi has been signed up by Hampshire for the remaining games of this year's T20 Blast. This development came after major injuries to leg-spinner Mason Crane and the other slow-bowling option in Brad Taylor. With the Ageas Bowl known to assist the spinners, Hampshire were left with no choice but to get a new resource on-board.

Still fairly new to international cricket, Shamsi has been an active participant in the T20 leagues across the globe, featuring in many reputed tournaments including the Indian Premier League where he represents Royal Challengers Bangalore. It's also his second Blast stint after having played for Northamptonshire in 2017. Hampshire's Director of Cricket, Giles White sounded upbeat about the South African's addition.

"After losing both Mason and Brad to injuries, Shamsi bolsters the squad and offers an excellent spin option with international experience for the final four fixtures of our Vitality Blast campaign. We're looking forward to having him with us," said White when asked about the signing.

Shamsi is the second South African in Hampshire's overseas department after all-rounder Chris Morris while seasoned Protea campaigners Rilee Rossouw and Kyle Abbott come under the local quota after having signed Kolpak deals. Hampshire's Blast campaign is currently in tatters, as they are placed sixth at present, desperately in need of a turnaround.
