Cricket news - Live Cricket Score - India vs South Africa, 1st T20I

19: 50: Match abandoned!

It's officially called off now. That was quick. The rain is so heavy that they see no point of extending the call-off time. And within an hour of scheduled start of play, we've seen this match being called off. No way out, really. Next game, in Mohali, is not far from Dharamsala and hopefully the bad weather doesn't follow these teams.

19:15: No good news

It's still pretty heavy, the rain. We'll have to wait for it to stop and then give time for the ground staff to get the playing area in shape. Looks very, very bleak at the moment.

18:48 IST: Rain still very heavy

This could be a long wait! Hang in there. Live pictures make it seem like a lake!

Toss has been delayed...

There's still work going on to clear the effects of the rain earlier. Meanwhile, there seems to be a spot of rain still around. So we'll be in for another delay here.

Rain update:

With just half an hour to go for the toss, there is some activity around the covers with water being removed. It has stopped raining at the moment but dark clouds hover around the ground. We'll have to wait and see if we do have the toss on time. And with the conditions around, you'd think that it's win-toss-and-chase kind of match with DLS equations also likely to come into play.

Welcome to our coverage of the 1st T20I between India and South Africa. Here begins the long road to the T20 WC next year. Both teams are still experimenting with their combinations and strategies to see what works best.

In that, there are plenty of questions that need answering. Here's what's at stake for both teams. Among those is India's new shift towards lengthening their batting order. What would that mean?

South Africa have a new captain, and plenty of new faces. Can they still manage to upset India in their own den? Remember, India are not as formidable in T20Is as they are in the longer formats. So anything is possible. But for that, the rain has to stay away. It has been raining quite heavily in the hours leading up to the game in Dharamsala. Hopefully, that situation will improve as we get to the game. We'll bring those updates to you from the ground as and when we can. Stay tuned.
