Cricket news - Live Cricket Score - Pakistan vs Sri Lanka, 3rd T20I, Lahore
Sri Lanka complete 3-0 sweep
Iftikhar Ahmed and Wahab Riaz fight till the end but their efforts go in vain as Sri Lanka complete a 3-0 series victory, winning the final T20I by 13 runs. Not a bad effort that, considering this is a second string Sri Lanka team going up against the top-ranked T20I side. This is also the lowest T20I total successfully defended in Pakistan. A nice little cherry on the cake for Sri Lanka, who can go back home proud of their efforts.
Quick wickets make it tougher for Pakistan
Sohail is out stumped off Hasaranga soon after his fifty. Wasim finds the fielder at long-on while attempting a big hit in the 17th over. He departs for 3, giving Kumara his second wicket while Hasaranga also gets his second as Asif Ali fails to execute a big shot and the spinner ends his spell with his third, having Sarfaraz bowled. He finishes with 3 for 21, leaving Pakistan needing 37 off 12.
Babar Azam, lacking his characteristic fluency, scratched around for 27 off 32 balls, but his dismissal has now made things a little tricky for Pakistan here. Sohail's still going well, raising a well-made fifty, but his partnership with Azam - while setting a good platform - has allowed the required rate to climb steadily. And it's now hovering close to 10 with seven overs to go.
Sohail on a mission
The southpaw, brought into the team today, is showing Pakistan why they shouldn't have gone to Umar Akmal or Ahmed Shehzad in the first place. After the first-ball wicket, Sohail's eye-catching strokeplay has got the hosts going. They're reasonably placed on 50/1 after 8 overs.
Fakhar falls first ball
Talk about having a perfect start. Kasun Rajitha gets lovely shape on the inswinger, even if it's a touch leg-sidish. But Fakhar Zaman's propensity to stay beside the ball works in the bowler's favour. It cramps him up, deflects off the pads onto the stumps. 0/1
Sri Lanka finish with 147
Excellent comeback towards the end by Pakistan there, giving just 22 runs in the final three overs. But the story of the innings was how Oshada Fernando's brilliant lone hand guided Sri Lanka towards respectability. They were struggling at 58/4, there was little-to-no support from the other end, there would've been nerves on debut, but Oshada defied all that with a sparkling 78 off just 48 balls. Back shortly with the chase.
Oshada sparkles on debut
Oshada Fernando, on T20I debut, has rebelled gloriously against Sri Lanka's misery, single-handedly lifting them out of the mire. This is quite a brilliant recovery which has propelled them towards a respectable score going into the final three overs.
Sri Lanka 125/4 (17)
Sri Lanka wobble along
Angelo Perera is absolutely furious after being run out. He covers his face with his hand and screams into it. Little bit of indecision in going for the second run cost him. Sri Lanka have lost their fourth wicket in just eight overs. Pakistan on top here.
Bhanuka Rajapaksa, who's had a brilliant debut series, is gone early. A miscued hoick finds itself snaffled by Asif Ali - very nifty footwork there on the square leg boundary. Amir has a second.
Dropped catches, wickets, chaos
It's what you'd expect, really. Props to the Pakistan bowlers here, both Mohammad Amir and Imad Wasim haven't let dropped catches affect them. After Sarfaraz fluffed a fairly comfortable opportunity, Amir struck back with an in-cutter to castle Gunathilaka. In the very next over, Rajapaksa was dropped off Wasim's bowling, but he quickly put it behind and trapped Samarawickrama with a slider.
So, for the first time in the series, Pakistan have prevented Sri Lanka from getting off to a brisk start. It's 28/2 after four overs.
Sri Lanka: Danushka Gunathilaka, Sadeera Samarawickrama(w), Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Angelo Perera, Oshada Fernando, Dasun Shanaka(c), Wanindu Hasaranga, Lahiru Madushanka, Lakshan Sandakan, Kasun Rajitha, Lahiru Kumara
Pakistan: Babar Azam, Fakhar Zaman, Haris Sohail, Sarfaraz Ahmed(w/c), Asif Ali, Iftikhar Ahmed, Imad Wasim, Wahab Riaz, Shadab Khan, Mohammad Amir, Usman Shinwari
Pakistan have dropped both Umar Akmal and Ahmed Shehzad - whose inclusions were a cause for much ire. Haris Sohail, Iftikhar Ahmed have been brought in. Usman Khan returns as well. Sri Lanka have made as many as five changes, looking to give everyone an opportunity having already won the series.
Third time in three matches that Sri Lanka will get the first use of this pitch in Lahore.
Sri Lanka opt to bat
The celebration of international cricket's return to Pakistan was all well and good, until this happened. And this. Now the vibe couldn't be any more different. World No. 1 Pakistan are 0-2 down against a Sri Lankan side (their second string version) that were at No. 8 in the rankings when this series started. The state of shock has materialized through some drastic statements from new coach Misbah-ul-Haq. This preview should have you covered on why a win today won't be as alleviating for the hosts as damaging as a loss would be. A 3-0 whitewash after a much-anticipated return back home doesn't sound like a lot of fun. What will be fun though, is tagging along with our live coverage, both the ball-by-ball variety and here in the live blog. So welcome then, let's get this going.
