Cricket news - Blackwell, Litchfield ease Sydney Thunder past Brisbane Heat

Litchfield became the youngest player to score a WBBL half-century

Sydney Thunder vs Brisbane Heat, Sydney

Alex Blackwell (42 not out) and Phoebe Litchfield (52 not out) collaborated to ease Sydney Thunder to a seven-wicket win over Brisbane Heat as they polished off 150 in 18.5 overs with an unbeaten 97-run stand. Litchfield became the youngest player to score a WBBL half-century. The hosts started well in their chase as openers - Naomi Stalenberg and Rachel Priest - scored 48 for the first wicket. They, however, slipped to 56 for 3 soon after before the Litchfield-Blackwell collaboration shut the door on the visitors.

Earlier, Jess Jonassen struck 42 off 34 but a lower-order meltdown meant Heat weren't able to finish on a strong note. Samantha Bates bagged three wickets and was well supported by Nida Dar (2 for 22).

Brief scores: Brisbane Heat 150/9 in 20 overs (Jess Jonassen 42; Samantha Bates 3-33) lost to Sydney Thunder 153/3 in 18.5 overs (Phoebe Litchfield 52*, Alex Blackwell 42*) by seven wickets.

Melbourne Stars vs Hobart Hurricanes, Melbourne

Melbourne Stars lost their second game as Hobart Hurricanes sealed a five-wicket win after restricting the hosts to 136 for 7. Lizelle Lee, Emma Inglis and Mignon du Preez got starts but were not able to breach the 25-run mark and that hurt the team's chances of posting a challenging score.

In the chase, Hurricanes were reduced to 18 for 2 but Nicola Carey struck an unbeaten 60 off 46 to ensure there were not too many hiccups.

Brief scores: Melbourne Stars 136/7 in 20 overs (Belinda Vakarewa 2-22) lost to Hobart Hurricanes 137/5 in 18.3 overs (Nicola Carey 60*) by five wickets.

Adelaide Strikers vs Melbourne Renegades, Adelaide

Danielle Wyatt (61) and Tammy Beaumont (41) helped Melbourne Renegades trounce Adelaide Strikers by five wickets as their 84-run stand instrumental in the side chasing down 152 in 19 overs. Sophie Molineux fell on the first ball of the chase but the duo took the game away from the hosts in the next 11.2 overs. Jessica Duffin provided the finishing touches with his 26 off 15.

Sophie Devine's 48 gave Strikers a fighting score but the lack of match-defining knock hurt the hosts. Bridget Patterson chipped in with 38 but Maitlan Brown, Molly Strano and Georgia Wareham kept things in check after the opening bowlers leaked runs.

Brief scores: Adelaide Strikers 152/5 in 20 overs (Sophie Devine 48; Maitlan Brown 2-20) lost to Melbourne Renegades 154/5 in 19 overs (Danielle Wyatt 61) by five wickets.
