Sudhindra Shinde has played 18 first-c games for Karnataka and ran a cricket club in the state.

Sudhindra Shinde, former Karnataka cricketer and member of KSCA's managing committee, became the latest person arrested in relation to the KPL corruption scandal. Bengaluru Police arrested Shinde, 39, on Wednesday (December 4) for allegedly conspiring to fix games in the 2019 edition of the domestic T20 tournament along with Belgavi Panthers team owner Ashfaq Ali Thara.

"Shinde was arrested for assisting Belagavi Panthers owner Ashfaq Ali Thara in betting and spot-fixing KPL matches. He facilitated and had knowledge," central crime branch Deputy Commissioner of Police Kuldeep Jain confirmed to IANS.

Shinde, who has represented Karnataka in 18 first-class games, has been involved with the state association in various roles post his playing career. Most recently, he served coached the U-19 state team, a post he relinquished after being elected to the managing committee. Bengaluru Police stated that Shinde, who ran a coaching club in Bangalore, came into contact with Thara after the latter began sponsoring his club. Shinde, who was subsequently appointed "head of cricket" at the Thara-owned Belgavi Panthers, was alleged to have been involved in the malpractice of fixing games.

The latest arrest comes on the back of a thorough investigation process, one that has seen several high-profile arrests. Besides Thara, who has also been suspended by the KSCA, drums player Bhavesh Bafna and Bellary Tuskers cricketers CM Gautam and Abrab Kazi have been arrested by the Bengaluru Police. The scandal has also drawn the attention of both the BCCI and ICC, who have offered their co-operation to the Police to uncover the issue. KSCA has confirmed that KPL as a tournament stands suspended until the investigation procedure is completed.

Shinde's arrest came on the back of several other people, including cricketers, being interrogated and even apprehended by the police in the past few months. Apart than Thara and Bhavesh Bafna, who played the drums at the grounds during KPL matches, the police recently took into custody former Karnataka captain CM Gautam and spinner Abrar Kazi. Both had represented Bellary Tuskers in the last season of the KPL.
