Zimbabwe have named Dion Myers as captain of a squad with a few experienced players for the Under-19 World Cup, scheduled to be held from January 17 in South Africa.

Wesley Madheverere, who has been picked as Myers's deputy, will be featuring in his third Under-19 World Cup after having debuted in the 2016 edition in Bangladesh at the age of 15. Zimbabwe have also picked left-arm spinner Milton Shumba, who was also part of Zimbabwe's squad in the previous edition of the tournament in New Zealand in 2018.

Former Zimbabwe wicketkeeper Wayne James's son Brandon James has made the cut, while Taurayi Tugwete, a former Under-17 football starlet for the national side, has also been picked. Zimbabwe head to South Africa armed with a left-arm chinaman bowler too in Tandiwanashe Nyangani.

Zimbabwe Cricket arrived at the final squad after assessing performances across two tours to South Africa and practice matches against Uganda and local provincial sides, as well as trials and training camps.

Coached by former player Prosper Utseya, Zimbabwe have been placed in Group C along side Bangladesh - against whom they will open their campaign on January 18, Pakistan and Scotland.
