The Afghanistan Cricket Board has reappointed Asghar Afghan as the national team's skipper across all formats. The decision was taken after consulting the top management, the ACB confirmed on Wednesday (December 11).

Afghan, who was the national team's long-standing captain, was controversially relieved of his duties just before the World Cup, with the decision publicly criticised by the likes of Rashid Khan and Mohammad Nabi. The ACB had then appointed Rahmat Shah as the Test skipper, Gulbadin Naib as the ODI skipper and Rashid as the T20I skipper.

However, following Afghanistan's disappointing World Cup campaign where they lost all their matches, Rashid was named skipper across formats. The Asian side upset the West Indies 2-1 in the T20I series, but were blanked 3-0 in the ODIs and were beaten in the one-off Test as well, prompting the change.
