Cricket news - Tea taken early as weather continues to play spoilsport

Dhananjaya de Silva added 15 runs to his overnight score in the post Lunch session

Dhananjaya de Silva added 15 runs to his overnight score in the post Lunch session

Play began right after lunch on Day 3, but couldn't go on for more than 5.2 overs as bad light swooped in to enforce another suspension as the weather continued to run roughshod over the Rawalpindi Test. This after the morning session had already been consumed by the overnight rain. As such, tea was taken early by the umpires.

The latest installment of play saw Dhananjaya de Silva add 15 runs to his overnight score as he moved to 87 - his rhythm hardly disrupted by the interruptions as he cracked a couple of sweet boundaries.

Pakistan, on their part, were pretty good too even though they couldn't make any breakthroughs. Naseem Shah and Shaheen Afridi asked plenty of questions with the ball that's still fairly new. De Silva, in fact, almost chopped a Naseem delivery back onto his stumps.

But even as the cricket has been of high quality, the weather has been unrelenting.

Brief Scores: Sri Lanka 282 for 6 (Dhananjaya de Silva 87*, Dimuth Karunaratne 59; Shaheen Afridi 2/58) vs Pakistan
