Australia suffered a bowling setback of their own in Perth after fast bowler Josh Hazlewood was forced off the field on the second day of the Test match with a hamstring strain. The fast bowler pulled up feeling his left hamstring midway through his second over and left the field.

Hazlewood will undergo a MRI scan in the evening, which will offer more clarity on his participation in the remainder of this two-Test series. For the time being though, both teams have been reduced to 10 players each with New Zealand's Lockie Ferguson was restricted to just 11 overs of bowling on the opening day of his debut Test after picking up a calf injury.

The 28-year-old Hazlewood has been enjoying one of the more productive phases of his 51-Test career so far. He has taken 31 wickets at 21.94 since the Ashes and is only five scalps away from completing 200 Test wickets. Even in the eight balls he did bowl at New Zealand, he claimed the wicket of Jeet Raval.

Australia, down to three specialist bowlers, even had Matthew Wade bowl two overs of his medium pace.
