Cricket news - Live Cricket Score - India vs Australia, 2nd ODI, Rajkot 2019
Can Finch & Co. seal a second consecutive ODI series against India?
Gav Joshi @Gampa_cricket Saini looks like a bowler that is more effective when he hits the deck hard back of the length. The minute he goes full it's like the ball floats and loses than venom. #INDvAUS 01:04 PM  Jan 01, 2020
Australia fail to make the most of the field in, only get 55 in the first 10 overs in quite a steep chase.
50 up for Australia!
Back-to-back maidens from Bumrah! Guess he's back... didn't really take him that long.
A very tricky phase for Australia. India have their tails up.
The CricViz Analyst @cricvizanalyst Mohammed Shami was the leading wicket taker in 2019 with 42 wickets. The key for him was his line, with 17% deliveries hitting the stumps. At his pace that made him very lethal. Of all seamers only Malinga (19.7%) had a higher proportion of deliveries hitting the stumps. #INDvAUS 12:25 PM  Jan 01, 2020
Bharath Ramaraj @Fancricket12 With AUS, it is about their pace bowling. With Warner dismissed, uphill task. 12:34 PM  Jan 01, 2020
WARNER DEPARTS!!No impact with the bat, but Manish plucks out a one-handed beauty to dismiss the dangerous David Warner! Australia have lost their in-form batsman for 15. It's just the fourth over in this biiiiig chase.Oh, Steve Smith is the next man in. Shami gets the wicket. Warner just couldn't get going today.
Looks like Saini has hurt his ankle. He's being looked into by the physio. Kohli looks concerned.
Finch and Warner are in the middle.
Amber garg @tweetsochrahahu This is a huge total on the board but the problem still remains. The same 4 guys are doing most of the scoring. If @klrahul11 is comfortable with batting at number 5, India must play him at this position so that when @RishabhPant17 comes both can finish @Kritzika #INDvsAUS 12:18 PM  Jan 01, 2020
Australia need 341 to win!It might seem like a lot, but the wicket is as flat as they come. And with dew expected, it is bound to aid them in their chase. But they will have to bat well. A total over 300 on any day is challenging, and their openers will have to give them a good start. India got to 340 only on the back of all of their batsmen getting consistent scores. None of them went on to get a century, but the 70s, 80s and 90s were good enough for them. Rohit, Dhawan, Kohli and Rahul, were all among the runs today, but the standout was KL - coming in at a position he's not accustomed to. He came in at No.5 and after Kohli departed, and Pandey fell, it seemed like India had lost their way a tad bit. They, however, were revived by Rahul's onslaught, who gave them a fighting total en route his 80 of 52 balls. Can Australia chase this down? Join us for the chase.
50 off 29 balls! Rahul is scoring some very important runs here for India! It didn't look like India would get 350 after Kohli and Pandey fell, but Rahul has kept them in the hunt.
FIFTY FOR RAHUL! He's taking on Starc and has taken India over the 300-run mark.
OUT! Manish Pandey holes out.It was the short ball and Pandey was committed to the shot, gets the toe-end and departs. Hands an easy catch to Agar in the deep.
Kohli falls for 78! Zampa now has him 5 times!!It was one of those new-age catches at the boundary with Agar picking it as he crossed the ropes, before releasing it in for Starc to complete the catch. Australia picking up a key wicket here at a crucial time.
250 up for India
Amber garg @tweetsochrahahu This is exactly the difference when @imVkohli bats at number 3. The dot ball percentage reduces significantly @Kritzika @cricbuzz #INDvsAUS 10:34 AM  Jan 01, 2020
50-run stand between Kohli and Rahul. What India have done so well today is build stands. Not one, but throughout.
WOW! What a shot!Did you see that flick from the Indian skipper?
Cummins is back. Australia are looking for Kohli's wicket. Can they get him?
Deepu Narayanan @deeputalks Kohli batting on 50* - his last eight 50+ scores in home ODIs 121 113 140 157* 107 116 123 85 (last) #INDvAUS 10:32 AM  Jan 01, 2020
Another FIFTY for Kohli. It's come at a run a ball. Haven't seen big shots from him yet today, but has rotated the strike and kept the runs flowing in.
IYER KNOCKED OVER!Iyer goes for the hoick and misses. Zampa gets an inside edge off the pad that crashes into the stumps. Kohli isn't happy!
100-run stand up between the two AND OUT!!Dhawan had a century for the taking! But finds the man! What has he done? Threw it away really. That stand was dominated by Dhawan with Kohli contributing just 35. Dhawan looked like he was making up for that missed chance last ODI to get to his century. And falls short again! It was a poor ball from Richardson, short and down leg even. Dhawan goes after it and pulls it to fine leg. The bowler is surprised too that he's got that wicket. Dhawan falls for 96; Australia get lucky.
Dhawan is into the 80s ... and the stand is nearing 100 between Dhawan and Kohli.
150 up for India at the halfway stage
Glen McGopi @McGopi Crucial phase for both the teams. India desperately needs a big partnership from the Delhi Boys to score 300+ Meanwhile, Zampa will be fancying his chances against Kohli. @Kritzika #CBHaveYourSay 09:41 AM  Jan 01, 2020
Partnership of 50 up between Kohli and Dhawan.
Cricbuzz @cricbuzz Dhawan - last 5 ODIs vs. Australia: 143, 12, 117, 74, 50* (this match) #INDvAUS 09:39 AM  Jan 01, 2020
Back-to-back fifties for Dhawan!Has been under a bit of pressure because of KL being in the side, but successive 50s would have done him and his confidence a world of good. Has come off 60 balls! It's his 29th in ODIs.
The CricViz Analyst @cricvizanalyst Looking to attack Zampa straight is a good tactic. In ODIs, Zampa has conceded at 8.1 runs per over and inducing only 2.4% false shots when batsmen have looked to play attacking shots through mid on & mid off in his ODI career. #INDvAUS 09:34 AM  Jan 01, 2020
100 up for India, and in good time.Has taken them 17 overs to get there. A big total is on the cards in Rajkot.
Kohli is back to his position - comes in at No.3!
OUT! Zampa gets the breakthrough. After belting the previous one for a boundary, Rohit gets on to one knee and tries to put it away down leg. Big shout, given out! India review. Ball-tracking shows three reds - Rohit departs! He was just about beginning to shift gears. Rohit falls for 42 and Zampa breaks the 81-run opening stand.
Ric Finlay @RicFinlay 300 runs and counting since a wicket fell in India... 08:40 AM  Jan 01, 2020
50 up for India. The openers have made a great start.
Put down!It was a really tough chance, but you'd back Smith to hold on to those. He puts in the dive to his right at point, but can't hold on. Brushes his fingertips... just about.
India have made a steady start.
Gav Joshi @Gampa_cricket Cummins bowling first over, another example of Australia relying and trusting on personal match ups. Australia have become masters in that area. #INDvsAUS 08:02 AM  Jan 01, 2020
The Indian openers are out in the middle. Pat Cummins with the ball.
Toss & Teams
Finch calls Tails. It is Tails and an unchanged Australian side will bowl! Kohli says he wanted to bowl as well but believes dew won't be a factor in the second half of the game. It's a beauty of a batting surface that welcomes the returning Manish Pandey (for the injured Pant). Navdeep Saini comes in for Shardul Thakur.
Where does Kohli bat?
No.3 is a simple answer (and maybe even right). But keep in mind - his move to No.4 was taken with an eye on the long-term future of both Rahul and India's ODI plans going forward. Debunking that so quickly because of a solitary defeat could have far reaching consequences.
Remember the narrative before the 2019 World Cup? India didn't groom/persist with a No.4 in the long run. Maybe that's what they are out to correct this time.

More reading: Before Kohli figures his long-term batting position in this transitional team, he may want to look at his H2H with Adam Zampa, who has gotten the Indian captain out four times in ODIs (two more in T20Is as well). Here's what theleggie had to say about having an attacking mindset against Kohli!
Will the real Bumrah step up at Rajkot?
Bharath Ramaraj charts the progress of India's talisman since his return from a lower-back injury. There are quotes in his story from Dr. Simon Feros, a lecturer in functional anatomy/strength and conditioning sciences. You don't want to miss this.
Prelude - Rajkot 2019
India haven't been made to feel as uncomfortable in ODI cricket (more so at home) as Australia have done over the last 10 months. Aaron Finch's men have won four ODIs on the trot - going back to the last series - in India and a fifth would give them a second bilateral series win on the bounce against one of the most consistent sides of the format.
But why have India been made to feel uncomfortable? An answer to that can be narrowed to two simplistic reasons - Australia's incisive bowling attack hasn't allowed India to build beyond their top-3. And Australia's own batting has been quite adept at nullifying both the Bumrah and the Kuldeep threat quite well.
50-over cricket is not priority right now but these two sides face each other rather often for any series to be brushed under the carpet. Expect India to shun some experiments and return to playing percentage cricket. Expect Australia to go for the proverbial jugular.
This should be fun! Welcome to Rajkot for the second ODI!
