Put in to bat, Basant Mohanty and Suryakant Pradhan landed the early blows to leave the visitors struggling at 25 for 3. There was another double strike as Manoj Tiwary and Arnab Nandi failed to bail the side out.

Majumdar first steadied the ship with Shreevats Goswami with a 95-run stand and then partnered Shahbaz Ahmed (82 not out) for a 167-run stand to lead Bengal's recovery.

Brief scores: Bengal 308/6 (Anustup Majumdar 136*, Shahbaz Ahmed 82*; Kanwar Singh Chohan 2-52) vs Odisha.

Saurashtra vs Andhra, Ongole

Half-centuries from Vishvaraj Jadeja and Sheldon Jackson propped up Saurashtra after an early wobble as they ended the opening day on 226 for 6. Put in to bat, Saurashtra were 67 for 3 when the pair got together. They scored 72 for the fourth wicket to steady things before Jackson fell to Yarra Prithviraj after a 71-ball stay. Karnataka vs Jammu & Kashmir, Jammu

There was a long and frustrating wait for both teams as a short rain and bad light ensured there was no play for most of the day. When the toss did happen, Karnataka chose to bat and ended on 14 for 2 in the six overs bowled. R Samarth got a peach from Aquib Nabi while Devdutt Padikkal succumbed to a rash stroke.

Brief scores: Karnataka 14/2 (Karun Nair 4*; Mujtaba Yousuf 1-5) vs Jammu & Kashmir.
