Nottinghamshire vs Derbyshire, North Group

A disciplined performance with the ball, followed by a strong show with the bat helped Nottinghamshire extend their unbeaten run in the T20 Blast 2020 as they breezed to an eight-wicket win against Derbyshire. Having already qualified for the quarterfinals, Nottinghamshire went on to register their sixth win in eight games, with two of their matches being abandoned due to rain.

Opting to bowl, Nottinghamshire struck at regular intervals during the powerplay to reduce Derbyshire to 28 for 3 in the sixth over. Billy Godleman tried to give some shape to the innings with a run-a-ball 47. But Nottinghamshire kept chipping away, with Jake Ball and Samit Patel picking up five wickets between them. Brooke Guest's 13-ball 22 helped Derbyshire to some quick runs in the last couple of overs as they finished with 142 for 8.

Alex Hales helped Nottinghamshire race away in the chase as he scored 22 off the first 28 runs on the board. There was plenty of action in the first two overs as Hales struck two sixes and two fours before falling to Dustin Melton off the last ball of the second over. Chris Nash then guided the team with a 33-ball 40 and remained unbeaten as he watched Ben Duckett register a quick-fire fifty at the other end. Nottinghamshire took only 14.1 overs to get across the line.

Brief scores: Derbyshire 142/8 in 20 overs (Billy Godleman 47, Anuj Dal 25; Jake Ball 3-28, Samit Patel 2-26) lost to Nottinghamshire 143/2 in 14.1 overs (Ben Duckett 57*, Chris Nash 40*; Matthew Critchley 1-32) by 8 wickets.

Lancashire vs Yorkshire, North Group

An all-round show from Joe Root went in vain as Lancashire defeated Yorkshire by 7 runs to seal a spot in the quarterfinals. With five wins from eight games, Lancashire are second in the North Group with 12 points. Yorkshire, meanwhile, are out of contention with only two wins from nine matches, and two no results, that has left them with six points.

Opting to bat, Lancashire rode on half-centuries from Liam Livingstone and Steven Croft to finish with a competitive total. Having lost Alex Davies early, Livingstone and Croft put on a 130-run stand to give Lancashire a good platform. But Yorkshire managed to come back well with the ball, picking up five wickets for only 18 runs and conceded only 34 runs in the last five overs. Root bagged two wickets while Jordan Thompson and Duanne Olivier also picked up two apiece.

Yorkshire lost Dawid Malan in the fourth over of the chase, and a 91-run stand between Adam Lyth and Root ensued. However, both Lyth and Root were run out at a crucial juncture, which slowed Yorkshire down. They still had a chance as they needed 12 from the final over. But Saqib Mahmood bowled an excellent over, giving away only four runs to restrict Yorkshire to 160 for 6.

Brief scores: Lancashire 168/6 in 20 overs (Liam Livingstone 59, Steven Croft 58; Joe Root 2-25) beat Yorkshire 160/6 in 20 overs (Joe Root 64, Adam Lyth 45; Matthew Parkinson 1-27) by 7 runs.
