Cricket news - Buttler to miss RR's IPL opener

Royals are facing CSK on September 22 in their opening game.

Royals are facing CSK on September 22 in their opening game.

Jos Buttler is set to miss Rajasthan Royals' tournament opener against Chennai Super Kings on Tuesday (September 22) being in quarantine with his family in Dubai. England and Australia players travelled from one bubble to another after theirlimited-overs series in the UK, with the BCCI reducing the quarantine period to 36 hours for the players. However, Buttler, who missed the series owing to family commitments, will be subjected to six-day mandatory quarantine given that he travelled separately with his family to Dubai.

Buttler confirmed the same on Sunday (September 20) via an Instagram Live session on the Royals' page. "I'm unfortunately going to miss the first match for Rajasthan because I'm going to be doing my quarantine period because I'm here with my family - which is great that the Royals have allowed me to have my family out here. It'll be a huge help in lockdown having my family here with me."

While the Royals' captain Steve Smith posted a picture on his page with the young opening batsman in their set-up, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Buttler said he was excited to meet the youngster who turned heads in the Under-19 World Cup earlier in the year. "I have not met him yet but I am excited that he has joined the Royals. He has been doing brilliantly well for India U-19, he is such a huge talent. I am looking forward to meeting him and watch him bat. It is always getting to see young Indian talents unearth in the IPL. I am glad that he is on the Royals side," Buttler said.

Buttler like many others had missed watching MS Dhoni in action, whoreturned to competitive cricket after 437 days when CSK took on Mumbai Indians in the tournament opener, ending a five-match losing streak against their arch rivals. "I am a huge MS Dhoni fan. Great to see him back. Also, Sanju Samson, I am a big fan of his batting. He has been in the IPL for a long time. He makes the game look easy when he is in form. Look forward to watching him score lot of runs for Rajasthan Royals," he said.
