Smith, Morris shine

In the slog, Tewatia took advantage of Udana's left-arm angle and tonked him for a four a six through the on-side.On the other hand, Smith led from the front and composed a brilliant fifty before falling to Chris Morris in the last over.

The all-rounder ended up with excellent figures of 4 for 26. Change-ups, pounded the deck hard and kept the batsmen on their toes.

177 on the board. Can RCB chase this down?

Morris snuffs out Buttler

Smith has found form in the nick of time. He took advantage of some long-hops from Udana to collect boundaries. And then whipped Morris for a huge six over deep square leg. One of the shots of the day!

However, against the run of play, Morris dismissed Buttler. The impact of Morris can be seen by the fact that Buttler's bat face turned. He has turned out to be a good addition to the RCB side.

Chahal makes things happen!

Chahal has come to RCB's rescue. He sent Uthappa back to the hut with the opener attempting the slog-sweep but could only get it to the man at midwicket. Mistimed shot.

Samson, who was timing the ball neatly, then chipped one to Morris at long-off. With his subtle variations in pace and flight, Chahal is once again proving to be the trump-card.

Uthappa on fire; Stokes back in the hut

Uthappa continued to deal in boundaries, tonking Udana into the downtown territories. A timely return to form for the experienced campaigner. However, Stokes couldn't survive for long as he was done in by by the change of pace from Morris. He tried to pull but could only glove it to the 'keeper.

RR though have made a good start.

Bharath Ramaraj @Fancricket12 Chris Morris has also been pretty good in this IPL. He is basically leading the RCB attack here. Yorker, decent change-ups, hits the deck and can bat. 10:32 AM • Oct 10, 2020

Uthappa in fine form

Uthappa has taken the chance to open the batting against the hard new ball with both hands. He cracked punches and sweeps off Sundar to provide RR the impetus.

The plan from RR seems to be to give Buttler a new role and that is as the finisher.

Toss and teams:

Rajasthan Royals have won the crucial toss and opted to bat. The track could get slower as the game progresses.

Rajasthan Royals (Playing XI): Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler(w), Steven Smith(c), Sanju Samson, Robin Uthappa, Riyan Parag, Rahul Tewatia, Jofra Archer, Shreyas Gopal, Jaydev Unadkat, Kartik Tyagi

Steve Smith - We are batting. Day game, better to bat first. Same team for us. We have got a good mix with Stokes back, we did a lot of things right in the last game. The wickets are slowing up, one reason for batting first.

Royal Challengers Bangalore (Playing XI): Aaron Finch, Devdutt Padikkal, Virat Kohli(c), AB de Villiers(w), Gurkeerat Singh Mann, Washington Sundar, Chris Morris, Shahbaz Ahmed, Isuru Udana, Navdeep Saini, Yuzvendra Chahal

Virat Kohli- This pitch looks a lot better, the surface looks a lot better than what we had in Sharjah. We would have batted first as well. Couple of changes for us - Mann is back for us, he replaces Siraj. Dube misses out, Shahbaz Ahmed gets his first game today. That helps us get the balance back. We have learnt from our losses, that shows the character in the team. It's been a hectic schedule this week, it's all about executing our plans

We aren't playing on the centre pitch today and that means one side will be relatively short (at 66m). The other side though will have huge boundaries (at 85m). The dimensions are very deceptive with the straight boundaries as well. There is a stiff breeze blowing across, the pitch looks really good, this is only the second day game in Dubai, nothing much for the seamers, but with the ground dimensions, the spinners are going to be the key, reckon Danny Morrison and JP Duminy, in their pitch report.

Prelude

Royal Challengers would hope to resurrect their fortunes after slipping to a defeat in their previous game. RCB were criticised for making costly errors in the game against KXIP, including AB de Villiers batting as low as 6. Mohammed Siraj's costly over in the slog didn't help their cause either. To make matters worse, the likes of Isuru Udana and Yuzvendra Chahal didn't bowl their full quota of overs in conditions well-suited to their style of bowling.

What about their today's opponent, Rajasthan Royals? After posting a couple of wins in their first two games, RR have gone through a downward spiral, winning just one game in that period against SRH, with Tewatia and Parag inspiring them to a come-from-behind victory.

Steve Smith's ordinary form has been a cause for concern. The middle order has fired in fits and starts.

Can RR find a way out of the long tunnel of darkness? Will Ben Stokes continue to open the batting? What about RCB and their tactics for today's game? Catch all the action through our blog.
