Will the Morgan-led KKR side return to winning ways?

Aakash Chopra @cricketaakash Varun Chakravarty has been such a revelation in #IPL2020 has bowled crucial overs...picked up Big wickets. 5 wickets already....might pick up one more. ???????? 01:26 PM • Oct 10, 2020

Huge boost for KKR!

Truly a remarkable turnaround from KKR. They were three down for not many. However, Narine and Rana blazed their way to pilot KKR to an above par 194.

Pat Cummins then used the little bit of grass cover to ram home the advantage by picking up a couple of early wickets. Chakravarthy provided the finishing touches by ripping through the cream of the opposition ranks by claiming a five-wicket haul. Reaping the rewards for his unerring control and variations.

Huge boost for KKR after that embarrassing defeat against RCB. Meanwhile, a few jitters in the DC camp?

Cricketwallah @cricketwallah Sensational from Varun Chakravarthy. True, #DC batsmen had to go for strokes chasing such a huge target, but without exception, all his 5 victims were beaten in the air or by turn. Great pick by #KKR 01:22 PM • Oct 10, 2020

Chakravarthy can do no wrong...

What a day for Chakravarthy!! The spinner has now picked up his fifth wicket of the innings. Axar Patel is the latest to fall, with the mystery spinner castling the all-rounder. Five wickets in a T20 game. Take a bow!!

Chakravarthy spins a web

Chakravarthy continued to run through the heart of DC. Both Iyer and Hetmyer smashed it straight into the hands of the fielder positioned at long-on. Just couldn't get it off the sweet spot.

The mystery spinner also used the carrom ball to dismiss the dangerous Stoinis in his very next over. Game-changing spell.

Chakravarthy's ability to bowl quicker through the air and subtle variations coming into play. KKR are truly bossing the game.

Pant falls; DC in more trouble

Iyer smacked a couple of boundaries off Ferguson as DC looked to press the accelerator. Pant too tried to break free but could only top-edge his sweep off Chakravarthy to long-leg. He basically picked the fielder in the deep with perfection.

The required rate has climbed over 14 now.

Roaring start

Pat Cummins strikes. The wicket also would give the Australian paceman the much-needed boost. He got one to nip back into the right-handed Rahane to trap him in front.

First ball. Wicket. Roaring start for KKR.

Cummins also dismissed the in-form Dhawan to put KKR firmly in control. He got one to nibble away to shatter the timber, with Dhawan playing down the wrong line. The track is assisting the pacemen just enough.

Narine and Rana stun DC

Morgan thwacked Rabada for a six in the 19th over and then backed away to steer it to third man. Rana joined the party in the final over with a couple more boundaries. Even though Stoinis bagged the wickets of Rana and Morgan in the last over, the damage was done.

194/6 in 20. KKR would be pleased.

Narine's blitz

Eventually, Narine fell to Rabada as he looked to up the ante. He tried to pull Rabada but could only get it as far as the man stationed at deep square leg. Rabada gets a bit more height on his short ball and hits the bat hard.

64 off only 32. What a valuable innings!

Harsha Bhogle @bhogleharsha The tactic has worked today with Narine scattering the spinners and throwing the middle overs into disarray for @DelhiCapitals. Still think Morgan has to bat at 4 and ensure there is no fire instead of having to fight it. 11:03 AM • Oct 10, 2020

Smart recovery!

Rana also reached his fifty with a boundary off Nortje. Narine followed it up by tonking Stoinis for a six and a boundary. Narine also completed a blazing half-century and reached there in style by thwacking Ashwin over long-off. Raining fours and sixes.

Just the kind of recovery KKR needed to lift their sagging spirits.

A spark of revival

After a move with Ashwin, DC go bak to the pace to hurt Narine and Rana. But it doesn't quite work. If Ashwin's 9th over costed 13, Tushar Deshpande is taken for 18. Narine makes room and carves him over the off-side. Nitish Rana, waiting for that dreaded short ball, swivels into a pull for a six. Counter is on!

Rabada, Nortje duet

Nortje is on fire. The natural inward angle alongside some swing as he uproots the stumps of Tripathi. The top order batsman backed away to make room and tonk but to no avail. KKR are two down.

One has to remember Nortje in this tournament forced AB de Villiers' bat to turn in his hands. He isn't just bowling fast. He is also hitting the bat very hard.

Rabada followed it up by sending Karthik back to the hut. The former KKR skipper could only edge a fuller length delivery to the 'keeper. The South African pace pair on the money... yet again.

Nortje's fine run continues

Gill cracked a couple of fine shots but didn't last long, cutting Nortje straight to the man positioned at point. Soft dismissal in the end. Nortje is back in the side. Nortje is back among the wickets.

Bharath Ramaraj @Fancricket12 There is a hint of grass cover. Nortje and Rabada. 09:42 AM • Oct 10, 2020

Toss and teams

"We had a good practice, we need to focus. We haven't played our best cricket, hopefully we do that today. Nagarkoti comes in, Narine comes in for Kuldeep and Banton. Looks a good wicket, we love playing here" - Morgan

"We will bowl first, there's bit of grass on the wicket. It will help our seamers at the start. We are here to express ourselves, so our mindset will be the same. We will have the same approach. Every player has been Man of the match on some occasion. Rahane comes in for Prithvi, Nortje comes in for Sams" - Iyer.

Kolkata Knight Riders (Playing XI): Shubman Gill, Sunil Narine, Nitish Rana, Rahul Tripathi, Eoin Morgan(c), Dinesh Karthik(w), Pat Cummins, Lockie Ferguson, Kamlesh Nagarkoti, Prasidh Krishna, Varun Chakravarthy

Delhi Capitals (Playing XI): Shikhar Dhawan, Ajinkya Rahane, Shreyas Iyer(c), Rishabh Pant(w), Marcus Stoinis, Shimron Hetmyer, Axar Patel, Ravichandran Ashwin, Kagiso Rabada, Tushar Deshpande, Anrich Nortje

Pitch/ ground dimensions: It's pitch number 3 on the square. 74 metre boundary on one side square of the wicket, 62 metre on the other side, while 79 metre straight down the ground. There's nice growth of grass on the surface. Hoping the sun will dry it out and the grass will allow the ball to slide on. It will be a little bit two paced, reckons Ian Bishop.

84 for 8 in 20 overs. Lost by eight wickets against Royal Challengers Bangalore. Kolkata Knight Riders' players would look to leave behind the forgettable outing against RCB and move forward.

As the head coach Brendon McCullum noted their "destiny is still in their own hands" with the Kolkata franchise placed fourth on the points table.

McCullum would hope for Shubman Gill to play with positive intent at the top of the order. Meanwhile, in the bowling department, Pat Cummins needs to strike upfront.

What about their opponent for the day, Delhi Capitals? The second-placed side slipped to a defeat against Kings XI Punjab in their previous game. However, Rabada asserted that the defeat v KXIP "was just a loss and not a wake-up call".

Will DC continue to rest Nortje or this time it could be Rabada? You can check our preview to know more...
